Hi, authenticators- I’d appreciate it if one of you could let me know if this is authentic:
Item: Willis J9P-9927
Platform: Mercari
Seller: Haejung Jun
Item # can’t find one
Comment: The number on the creed is spaced very sloppily.

Thanks!
Lucy

It's something we have to be careful to not speak about too much in public because counterfeits manufacturers learn what details they need to correct to make better counterfeits when we talk openly about the mistakes they're making (more a problem with recent fakes these days than vintage items), and sellers who think or know that they're listing a fake know what details to NOT show in their listing photos.

So for someone who wants to avoid buying fakes, the safest thing to do is to read this forum on a regular basis and keep notes and photos. There are still plenty of "red flags" that we've never spoken about publicly, even here. The other safe thing to do as a buyer is to always authenticate BEFORE buying or commiting to buy.

BTW, reading a collection of posts about potential problems or red flags like the Search link I posted, once you've eliminated the posts that don't relate to the problem, gives a good overview of what makes the problem complicated in the first place.
That makes perfect sense and I have to admit think I have read you mention that before. Rest assured, I have learned my lesson. With a resource like this forum available there is no excuse for not utilizing the information and letting the experts do the authenticating and not muddy up the marketplace by making it easier for people to sell fakes. I love reading this forum and have started a file for all the photos and info I get from it. I really appreciate the search links since I’m still figuring out how to efficiently use the search tool. I didn’t realize how much I rely on Google to finish my thought whenever I search for something . Thank you!

When Searching for information on fakes, start here at tPF. Google is NOT a dependable source for authentication information, it's JUST a search engine. There's no way to know whether are not the links that come up include accurate information.

I mention that in the Salearea Guides. If you haven't already read them, do yourself a favor and read them ASAP. It's best to read the entire thread.

Without even looking at the listing since I can't open Mercari listings -IF THE CREED STAMP SAYS THE BAG WAS MADE IN THE USA, IT'S FAKE.

PLEASE POST A COPY OF THE SELLER'S CREED AND SERIAL NUMBER PHOTO FOR THIS AND FOR ALL FUTURE AUTHENTICATIONS.

As far as Google goes, it led me here and that was the end of my searching for coach info there  . The salearea guides are AMAZING! You have given all of us newbie vintage coachies a wonderful gift. I will need to read it a few times and then a few times more. And of course saving to reference. Thank you!
