The leather tips on the drawstring actually fitted over knotted ends just like the ones on the bag you're asking about. The separate leather tips apparently weren't sewn on as securely on that style as they were on some other styles.

It's genuine and was made in 1996.

This is what the 2 pieces would have looked like when they were separated. Some other drawstring styles had an extra row of stitching across the top to prevent the knotted end from being pulled out of the leather tip. This style didn't have that in the original version but I believe later versions did have the extra stitching.

Please could you authenticate this Coach Andie bag I recently bought.
Comments are that the manufacture and detail look good, but weight lighter than I would expect and the binding on the straps, which I will try to show seems like coated PVC to me. Something about it seems slightly off? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

The first one is probably okay. The creed is mostly obliterated but everything else looks good. It's a station bag. The second one is an authentic Madison satchel.
