Hi! I stumbled across this forum after jumping the gun and buying a couple purses from goodwill online. I usually go to the outlets, but, it was pretty…

Anyway… I was hoping someone can help authenticate this purse for me so I don’t feel awkward carrying it. Please?

Item: striped bleeker tote? (That’s what Google said when I typed in the numbers on the creed)
Where purchased or how obtained: goodwill online.
Comments: I’m kind of concerned with the messed up stitching on the creed. I didn’t notice that when I purchased it.

Measurements: 10.5”x4”x11”

I hope these pictures are what you need? Yes I read the rules. Apologies if I messed up. I don’t see any additional tags or any markings on any of the hardware. It didn’t come with the hangtag. Please let me know if you need to see more. Thank you so much in advance!

It's a genuine Bleecker Signature Stripe Tote made for the Factory Stores in 2010. The small flaws in the stitching would have been considered acceptable by Coach. (Please note that for online purchases, as long as the listing is still available, we still need the URL, although some sites remove the listing as soon as they consider the transaction completed.) It's a pretty color combination for Spring and Summer.

Welcome to tPF!

Thank you, that would be a big help. It's a very early kind of strap attachment and it looks like it has the original strap. The bags with that kind of grommet attachment usually used a smaller dog-leash clip than other Coaches. The chain strap was probably added by a previous owner.

So the bag has just arrived and it's in lovely condition apart from the damage to the strap which I assume could be fixed by a cobbler. It even has the anchors on the lobster clasps! Only thing is, I have no idea what colour it is meant to be as its about 7 different shades, from red through orange to tan! Pictures attached to hopefully identify the style

Thank you so much! I will post the link next time if I have any others that I’m concerned with.

@whateve would be the person to ask about color, especially considering the age of the bag. And if you're going to give it a bath and conditioning, the color will probably change and darken once it's bathed and refreshed.

It looks like a very early Dinky Bag, style 9375 and made some time in the 1970s. The removeable double strap with the grommets was the first kind Coach used for the Dinky and a few other styles, then changed the strap to a permanently attached tubular style right around 1980. It's very hard to pin exact dates down for early bags, but one of our vintage collectors now retired from tPF posted this a while back about Dinkys and their straps:

from RLBernstein -
"first-generation" Dinky.":
Based on everything I've seen, I'll posit that from its introduction in 1973 through to 1979, the #9375 Dinky was configured with the removable double-strand spaghetti strap (that attached to the bag via grommeted holes). In 1980, the design changed to the "classic" single-strand fixed (nonremovable) strap configuration that we're all familiar with and became the style that was produced from that point forward. Though I can appreciate that there have been other opinions offered, all the evidence so far suggests the proposed chronology.

ETA - Here are 2 pages from a 1981 catalog, one shows the already-changed permanent strap, and the other the available 1981 colors. This one is probably "Red". Click on the thumbnails to enlarge.

Thank you so much for your time, truly appreciate the help!

Dear Authenticators,

If I may seek your kind guidance and with my limited knowledge of Coach creeds, I would be most grateful. Does the creed of this bag mean that it is a genuine 9980 Coach Taft bag made in Oct 2002 at the Costa Rica "P" plant? Also, if the information is correct, will this bag be considered a vintage Coach bag on October of this year? (I believe a bag needs to be at least 20 yrs old to be vintage, If I remember correctly). Thanks so much for checking and correcting me if needed!

1- genuine and a very early Convertible Clutch, style 9635 probably made in the early to mid-1970s. Not only is this larger than the Dinky (note the measurements), but there's apparently no officially confirmed bag from that period called a Penny.

2- genuine, style 8920 and made in the late 1970s or very early 1980s

3- appears to be a genuine Duffle Sac but the creed stamp isn't clear and I can't enlarge the photos enough to read it. Probably late 1980s if it's genuine. MORE OPINIONS ARE WELCOME.

4- genuine, you're probably correct about the color

Nice find!
Thanks so much for the detailed reply, it's so interesting to learn about these vintage finds! The bag is in such lovely condition I'm not sure if I want to dunk it or just live with the colour differences! It definitely looks like it is red from those hangtags. Very excited to have a bag from the 70s in my collection, it's older than me and I love that! For £20 I think it was an absolute bargain!

#3 is fine. Here's the enlarged creed.

#2 - courier -- What a steal! Congrats!

#1 - @Hyacinth suggested the style as being a dinky, but so you know, there's no such thing as a "penny pocket" as you suspected. The bag style (if it were 9755) would have been a pocket purse.
