The bag is authentic.

The strap attachments are just a decorative detail.
Thank you!! It's a cool bag. I should have been more precise in my language. I was actually commenting on the front and back of the bag itself, looks like "flaps." But aren't. It's a different construction than I'm used to seeing, the bag accordions wider at the bottom.

It's a Sheridan Richmond Bag, 4209. What looks like thin flap compartments on the front and back of the bag are actually the outer panels of those narrow slip compartments accessible only from the inside. It's a strange kind of construction, (maybe for security or a place to keep some extra paper currency in case you lose your wallet?) and the only similar design I've seen so far on a Coach although they'll sometimes hide a narrow slip compartment in a place you normally wouldn't expect, like the hidden back pocket behind the inside zip pocket in the Patricia's Legacy.

Thank you for the explanation!! When I bid on the bag, I didn't know what it was (only that I liked the look of it) and I thought those were flaps but that the seller for some reason omitted any photos of how they open and close... :) Now the bag arrives and I'm figuring it all out. By the way, I love the bag.

I’m an idiot! I thought she was asking about the way the strap is attached.
Sorry about that.

It's genuine, but if it's from the 1970s it would have to be the very late '70s.

There should be a copyright date on at least one of those booklets or inserts. The bag would have to at least be more recent than the copyright date which should be close to the printing date.

You'll have to wait for @whateve for any identification.
As Hyacinth said, there is a 4 digit code on the catalog on the left side of the picture of the paperwork. The first 2 digits are the year, the second two are the month. The bag will have been made after that. It appears to be a classic pouch but there are no measurements in the listing to be sure. It was made at the original NYC factory. Any bag with a NYC creed was made there.

Hooray! Thank you so much, Hyacinth and whateve. I appreciate it, especially the specifics about how to narrow the dates down. This is just like Antiques Roadshow!

It's not something people notice unless they actually own one, and then the design makes sense in a strange Coach-ified way. The only thing i don't like about it is the little gap on the top corners of the bag, they make it not as "all-weather" (to coin or steal a phrase) as my other Sheridans but it's still a nice bag, even if it doesn't have any outside pockets. :giggle:

Here's a twin to the one I own, love the all-Taupe color:

Dear Authenticators,
I emerged victorious after waging battle at the luxury counter in a favorite thrift store. My prize appears to be a pre-1994 Chrystie with spring-lock flap in British tan. Measures approximately: 7.5”W x 6”H x 2.25”D with 48” strap

Modern style number: 9892

Am I a winner or did I battle for naught?

Except we never see any Coaches on the Antiques Roadshow! I wonder why? There have been a few LV bags and of course LV travel trunks, and some very nice lucite and evening bags and even a few To Die For Bakelite bags (see link), but no Coaches. I'd love to see someone come in for an appraisal with a pristine Cashin bag on each arm.

Genuine, probably one of the Coaches made in or around 1992 that still used the old 3+4 serial number format. So we have a WINNAH!
