Please read the "IMPORTANT - READ ME" post at the top of every page and include the required information, links and photos. Nothing can be authenticated unless we have ALL the required information.

And your photos can't be enlarged and are too small to be useful.

If the bag was sold as "NEW" like you claim, and the damage wasn't disclosed by the seller in photos OR in the item description, return it to the seller under Ebay's rules for a refund. It obviously is NOT "new".

It looks genuine, made in 1996.. But if the bag was cleaned like the seller claims and still has those dark spots on the top as shown in the 4th photo, the stains may be permanent.

They SHOULD give you the shivers. Genuine Coaches should never have just 3 letters of the alphabet as a serial number prefix. "BEC-" isn't valid. Also, the serial font is much too large and thick.

As always, thank you, @Hyacinth. The seller sent the creed photo so promptly I wanted to give her a chance to remove the listing. So I sent her a message and a link to your authentication. So far she hasn't removed the listing. I will look for the method to report the listing on Mercari. Beware, fellow suede lovers. It's gorgeous and so clearly fake.

SEARCHING FOR THAT STYLE NUMBER, I FOUND THIS LISTING which is probably not the one you bought - SCROLL DOWN A BIT:

Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: New | Sold by: 5th_ave_2u"

The listing is no longer available so apparently it's been reported to Ebay for some unknown reason. Looking under Completed listings by seller "5th_ave_2u " there's only one listing for a style F20794 but I can't be sure that it's the same bag shown in the buyer's photos posted in the above comments, it was apparently NWT in November when originally purchased and the buyer back in November left Positive Feedback. But since then have the handles fallen apart with use?

The purchaser of that NWT bags posted on Jan 2nd that the handles were falling apart. The photos here are much larger and clearly show the damage.

Tell me if I'm not seeing the situation clearly.

@Brian Kershaw, did you already report that bag as a fake to Ebay? Is that why the listing has been removed?

It's completely possible that the handles on a 10-year old bag, whether NWT or not, could have deteriorated while in storage. Coach's mostly plastic metallic and "patent" leather trims were famous for that. Here are a few examples mentioned by tPF members found when I Searched here for "poppy handles damage"

Here are several posts about a less serious problem with the metallic trim on a different Poppy style. It was on area not subject to the same wear as the handles, but it does indicate a problem:

There's an entire thread here on the subject, and the bags being discussed were apparently genuine and purchased directly from Coach. The bag the new poster is complaining about was also made for the outlets:

I think what we have is a case of serious deterioration of not just the leather (which is probably mostly plastic and chemicals) of the handles but also the underlying stitching, possibly due to the chemicals in the "leather". it has nothing to do with the purse not being authentic because it undoubtedly is. It apparently was a problem with the Poppy line and those handles right out of the box. In fact, if that bag WAS a fake, the handles would have been made better and a buyer wouldn't be having those problems. The advanced age added to the damage that appeared with just a little usage of a very flawed product. The only one that deserves full blame is Coach.

ETA
- I found more complaints about the Poppy line's quality problems using slightly different Search terms:

and another thread on the subject:

The buyer can contact the seller and ask nicely if there's a chance of at least getting a partial refund, and be sure to send them a link to this post so they're aware of the problem and will hopefully take a very close look at any other Poppy styles they have for sale. But that's something we can't help with, other than providing the relevant links and posts to back up my opinion.

@BeenBurned and @whateve, your thoughts?

The review from the ebay buyer bkershaw80 shows the same pictures as @Brian Kershaw posted above.

The bag is authentic but I've seen that peeling of the metallic "coating?" on some of Coach's bags.

ETA:
Although the seller isn't obligated to you (since it's >30 days from receipt) there's a possiblity that Coach will replace the strap, even if for a price. DO NOT tell them you bought it from ebay! They'll tell you it's fake.

But perhaps telling them it was a Christmas gift and you don't know where the giver purchased but it got damaged, they might offer a resolution.

I have another one for today. This creed has the “J8Y” prefix, but it’s not done in the Arial Narrow style font I’ve seen posted on this forum previously. I know the only absolute rule about vintage Coach is that there are no absolute rules.
What are your thoughts, please?

Fake. It is an absolute rule that all J8Y bags are fake.

Hello, I was given this bag during a clean out of an estate sale. I am questioning it because there are no serial numbers below the creed. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Genuine and from the early 1990s, but without measurements I can't be more than 90 percent sure that it's a City Bag.
