Comments:

Hello all,
I did not realize this might be a fake until I saw other similar bags priced much higher (I was simply looking for this style and have a couple of older Coach bags), and then found this forum where this seller is in the hall of shame. I’ve bought the bag already but believe I have time to cancel it if need be (or threaten to open a request with etsy, etc). This looks to be style 4023, the Drawstring Sling bag from the lightweight collection per this post here, but the label is giving me slight pause without being able to see images on that other post, and when comparing to other 4023's for sale. Would the Coach serial number ever be in XXXX-XXX format alongside the cartouche looking as it does, in the (I think) NYC Factory style with "COACH Leatherwear" raised? (I was looking at this guide here and this other guide here and neither show this overlap.) I'll post the pictures from the listing here too in case it is helpful for someone else in the future.

Because I now see this is a problem seller, I am worried it is a fake and the label gave me pause. Can someone pease authenticate? Thank you for your help, time, and expertise!

Hi Authenticators,

Received this as a gift from a fellow collector and we are hoping it is an Austen.

Hello Authenticators - Can you help me verify if this is an authentic Coach purse? I work at a retirement community thrift store and this was donated to our shop. Thanks in advance!

Some sellers list fakes because they just don't bother to authenticate them. Other sellers like SamiranaTreasures on Etsy KNOW they're selling fakes and don't give a damn, in fact they know they're ripping buyers off and keep doing it over and over again.

While we can sometimes understand the first kind of seller making mistakes due to cluelessness or laziness, there's no excuse for the second type. This seller has a history of selling fakes on multiple sites and I have a feeling at least one ID was NARU'd from Ebay for the same reason, so she knows perfectly well that she's doing it and just doesn't give a damn.

The most recent mention was just 6 weeks ago.

I do not and will not recommend buying from her under any circumstances, genuine or not. Fakes sellers shouldn't be rewarded for what in the US at least is actually a crime - a felony, to be precise. Personally, even though the bag you asked about is genuine, the color difference between the bag and the strap would be a concern with or without that seller's reputation.

In the future, please always search here at tPF for a seller's history as well as getting the bag authenticated before buying. And be aware that sellers often use sites like Etsy and Poshmark that don't make any serious effort to remove fakes in order to sell items that may have been reported or removed by Ebay.

Genuine, and you're correct on the name of the style, with one small correction. Austin, as in Austin,Texas, not Austen as in Saint Jane. But I have to respect and admire anyone whose first reaction to hearing the name is to want to spell it with an "e". :flowers:

Thank you so much for the authentication and advice, and lesson is very much learned! I really wish I'd found this forum before I bought it, but am breathing a "that was close" sigh of relief that it is genuine, at least. I'm hoping/suspecting the strap is not actually a different color in real life since it seems to match the body of the bag in some of the other photos in her listing--I think she upped the contrast on one of the pictures to make the leather look brighter than it is (which, while borderline-common in vintage listings of all kinds, is likely more nefarious seeing as she is often knowingly scamming people). Needless to say I will not be buying from her again, but I can certainly make use of my ability to review her shop as a customer. What a whirlwind.

Thank you again for the advice! You're doing magic here!
