I've been given many bags to sell for someone but in following my own advice to authenticate item one isn't sure of, I've come here with two bags I question.

I hope I'm wrong but I dont' believe either is authentic.

(I'll post the pictures in two separate posts.) I think the pictures are adequate but if more are needed, please let me know what you need.

Concerns:
1. Creed font - Wrong font for G plant?
2. Zipper pull - missing stitching across top of pull
3. Entire bag - sloppy stitching
4. Leather feels stiff and non-pliable

Thank you very much! :smile1:

ETA: Here's another comparison that seems to confirm my suspicions. The authentic bag is (supposedly) from the following month. :(

And bag #2: Black legacy style 9966?

Concerns:
1. Highly and well faked style
2. Creed and font don't look right.
3. "solid brass" on buckles
4. Silver grommets on strap (I know straps can get switched out and changed but coupled with the other concerns, I'm not sure that's the case with this bag.)
5. J6D prefix

Again, I thank you!

Your spidey sense was dead on. They are both fake. I have similar creeds in my files. Both styles are highly faked.

Could someone please authenticate this Coach bag?
From a local thrift...not GW for a change :)
Apprix. 9.25"w x 6.75" h x 2"d. Strap 11.5" to sides.
A 1997 Ergo Small #9020?
Thanks in advance!
It looks authentic. That double dash is unusual. Most D creeds from this era don't have a dash at all, but everything else looks good.

Some keychain links have gotten more elongated over the years, and the breaks in the rings have also gotton more obvious. The entire production process has become sloppier and lazier, just like with other Coach products. I came this close to buying a Rhyder Messenger during the Semi-Annual Sale but after reading some of the comments posted here about careless construction and glue where it shouldn't be, I hit the Back button. That's NOT what I'd call "Luxe craftsmanship" - makes me wonder why there aren't any reviews posted on Coach's website.
I totally agree. I ordered a drifter and there was something like paint on many areas. I couldn't decide if it was sealant that got on the leather or if they were trying to cover up something on the leather. At any rate, the leather wasn't that nice.

The last bags I bought were Bleecker mini duffles, which are some of the last bags with creed numbers. I like the leather on them.

At the outlet I complained about how everything is made of cross-grain leather, and the SA told me people like it because it is easy care. I guess it is like people choosing polyester over cotton. It bothers me that Coach is using the cheapest leather available (without lowering prices) and some people think it is a good thing.

I know Stuart Vevers is being blamed for a lot of this. I think the accountants are involved in the quality of the materials and workmanship. Maybe Reed Krakoff knew this was coming and that was another reason he left. I hope he ends up somewhere good.

Fake - wrong font on creed and serial number, too-early date ( I have Summer or Fall of 1996 as an intro date), really BAD Coach creed logo looks like it was drawn with a worn-down Magic Marker - in fact ALL the fonts are too thick in the creed, incomplete stitching on the leather zipper pull, mismatched leather color on binding or piping esp at the bottom, and all that is just from seeing the glaring problems without even comparing it to a real one.

all of the above.

Thank you also for confirming.

When I first saw this, I thought the seller had made a mistake in the listing of this bag which is obviously meant to be a Taft, and seller sent me a closeup of the creed with style number, it is 9954 instead of 9980 as listed per attached photo - bad photo but is it worth asking for a better one or a clear fake? Thanks as always.
