It's fine.
Well, now I have "been burned." :( I listed this for sale on ebay and someone reported it as counterfeit. Ebay removed the listing and has blocked me from more listings. Does anyone know if there is any recourse? I trust your opinion that it's a legit Coach product. And in fact, in my listing I said it had been looked at by an expert and deemed authentic.

Can you please post the takedown message (with personal info redacted) that ebay sent with the exact reason the listing was removed? (Sometimes it's not necessarily considered to be counterfeit but may be for lack of pictures, lack of seller experience, etc.

Before making further suggestions to appeal, I'd like to see what it said.

Well, I actually got to talk to a live person on ebay, and I'm disputing this. They (the people who had it removed) are going to take another look at the bag. We'll see what happens.

Here's the letter they sent me. (I already did appeal.)

Your account has been restricted because activity on it didn't follow our Counterfeit item policy. We don’t allow counterfeit items, replicas, or unauthorized copies.
What activity didn't follow the policy
- Limited selling history- After careful consideration, your listing has been removed because it didn?t comply with our policies. We received a report concerning the authenticity of your item. These reports can come from a number of channels, for example law enforcement. This removal was for your safety and the safety of the eBay community, so please do not relist your item.R elisting your item may result in the restriction of your account.
What you need to do next
Items removed for this policy cannot be relisted. Please ensure that your future listings are for authentic items only. For these items, they should be described accurately and completely, so buyers know that it is an authentic item.
What is the policy
- Counterfeit products are illegal and not allowed on eBay. Examples include:
-- Fakes, copies or replicas of brand name items (for example, a shoe with the Nike name or logo that wasn’t made by Nike)
-- Electronics or accessories that use or bear the brand name, logo or trademark of a company that didn’t manufacture the item
-- Bootleg recordings from concerts or other live shows
-- Unauthorized or pirated copies of movies, videos or software
- Listings with photos that hide or blur trademarks are not allowed
- If you’re not certain that your item is authentic, or if an authenticator has been unable to confirm its authenticity, it may not be listed
- We may remove listings if we receive buyer complaints that the item is not authentic. These items may not be relisted

This policy prevents the sale of counterfeit items, which are illegal, and could expose sellers to legal risk. Removing them protects sellers and their buyers from buyer protection claims and financial loss.

Hmm. Well, there's recourse if you don't get the green light on your own.

This line from their message seems to give you the opportunity to appeal and submit a professional authentication. A skilled Coach authenticator should be able to get you documentation confirming its authenticity. (I can supply a recommendation if you need it.) "If you’re not certain that your item is authentic, or if an authenticator has been unable to confirm its authenticity, it may not be listed"

ETA: This also caught my eye: "Limited selling history"

Well, it's now been examined by TWO Coach experts and deemed authentic.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the bag that I can see. The ONLY problem is that the Mercari seller put the wrong style number in the listing. She said it was a style 4150 which is a Fletcher Bag and doesn't look anything like this one which is a Brighton Bag style 9895, and that wouldn't affect an Ebay listing anyway. If the Ebay listing showed the wrong style number because the Mercari seller thought the style number was 4150 and in the pre-1994 serial and if someone reported it for THAT, then they're either a brainless moron or someone with an axe to grind.

None of the bag's details including the interior and the hardware show any problems.

Thank you!! It's not the temporary restriction that irks me most, it's being labeled someone who sells counterfeits. "Defects" on my account.

I can't read the serial number but none of the bag's details including the interior and the hardware show any problems.

Wait for @BeenBurned for advice on how to handle this.

I know that the girl I bought it from labeled it wrong. I suspect it's why she couldn't sell it, and marked it down to a super low selling price. I attempt to do my research, and MY ebay listing called it a Brighton bag #9895. The serial no. ends with the digits 4150, which she mistook for a style number.

The reason the Mercari seller showed the wrong style number is because she read a guide somewhere that stated that the second 1/2 of the serial number is the style. Either the guide was wrong or the seller didn't read through in order to understand that pre-1994 bags have random serial numbers and the serial numbers don't ID a style.

And JMHO, ebay needs to vet some of the reporters of "supposed" fakes because someone is f-ing up big time!

@ConnieinSeattle, you are the third person in 3 days who has had absolutely genuine items reported and removed! (And that's only those of whom I'm aware!) One person had 2 listings removed (both authentic) and another had one removed in the last 2 days but at least a dozen removed in the last 18 months!

Thanks, I found your photos from your original authentication and edited my post a bit.

@BeenBurned, the same. It just takes me a while to edit, I'm a slow typist.

The bag's still genuine. Who the F*** is filing those reports?

And how the heck does Ebay think that people are going to trust their overpriced "Luxury Authentication" service when they can't even authenticate a couple of Coaches? No wonder they're trying to squeeze free advertising for that joke of a service out of a completely useless extra handbag forum that no one asked for.

Yes, the defects and the label are the worst!

Keep us updated on the appeal.Ask if you can show copies of the comments here. (They may not accept it but you never know. To send the actual links, click on the post # on the top right in the reply.)

Thanks for the feedback/info/moral support here. I'll let you know what happens when they supposedly take a second look at the Brighton Bag. If I can't sell it there, I'll probably keep it for me. I think it's beautiful.

You might want to leave out my comments, especially the part about Ebay's Luxury Handbag Authentication Service. :giggle: Or just leave that part out.

Ok. I actually suspect they're not giving me any opportunity to present any evidence whatsoever. The final statement on my phone call with eBay was that the person I was talking to was going to forward a request to the people that rejected my purse and say to them please take another look. They may or may not choose to do so.
