IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.
For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

Yep, unless you plan to keep that bag forever for your own use, it can't be authenticated and shouldn't be sold. I continue to find it amazing (and unbelievable) that not a single seller of a "sample" bag has ever shown any type of evidence proving authenticity!

I apologize for missing your original request because had I seen it, I would have advised you not to buy it.

Also, had you searched the seller's ID (one of the reasons we need it for requests), you would have seen a history. That Hall of Shame post has 4 fakes that she'd listing/sold:

Thank you, BeenBurned!

Does ebay allow for the item to be returned if the bag cannot be authenticated because it is a sample and the seller does not provide any evidence of authenticity? Technically I just received it yesterday and didn't accept it yet, but am also on the fence since it seems to feel like Coach quality and would be a little bit neat to have a sample bag, if it is real (the seller selling fakes is kind of junk). I'm kind of wary of trying to resell any bags since it seems like a hassle, but if I kept it, I know I can't resell it. LOL, maybe I could turn it back in to Coach for their reloved program. They can authenticate their own samples.:P

Thank you for all of the great knowledge you guys have!

Hi again, apologies for missing off information, I’m afraid I can’t attach a link as I’ve already bought the bag. She was a young lady selling on behalf of her Mother. Here’s the additional photos - I really appreciate your help :)

ty - i can’t find a tape measure anywhere in my home cuz my hubby seems to hoard them - i’m currently looking - i’m really curious about the name of the bag ! anyways thank you again
Take a photo of it standing next to a standard 12-ounce can of soda pop or something similar. We can figure out the rest.

The bag is one of the Saddle Pouches. There are 3 different sizes.

And if you're in the US, every grocery store in the country this week probably has an aisle of back-to-school supplies, it's a good chance to grab a ruler or two. If there's a Dollar Store nearby, even better. Right now I have 5 rulers and one tape measure all within 2 feet of me when I'm at my computer. And there's always a tape measure in my purse in case the urge to scrounge through one of the local thrifts strikes me as I'm driving.

I'm not an authenticator so I can't tell you if it is genuine, but years ago I rehabbed a Saddle Pouch 9590 Standard Size (9 x 7 x 1 ½) and you can pictures of it at the link below:

Good evening dear authenticators! A request to authenticate please. Thank you!

Item: Chrystie
Where purchased or how obtained: thrift store
Comments: dimensions are 6" height, a little over 7" width, not quite 3" depth. Again, pardon the sideway and upside down creeds.

Please and thank you for authentication. I bought this one for re-sale from shopgoodwill.com, but after cleaning the leather and hardware and getting "intimate" with how beautiful and well-made it is, I LOVE it. Someone had monkeyed with the zipper and stapled on it so the bag wouldn't open all the way. I fixed it! Now...Keeping it for me. Does it pass the expert eye test?

Hello! This is my first ever entry and I hope someone can help me? I bought a bag on Vinted, the seller pointed out a few faults, I thought it looked good so bought it, however, another very helpful seller had advised I should seek TPF authenticity as she (who is very knowledgeable) was still not 100% sure. I’ve attached a few photos and really look forward to hearing from someone, thank you in advance x

Giving this a BUMP so our experts in recent styles can take a look and see all the photos together...

Genuine, from the Chelsea Pebbled Leather line made in 2007, probably the Satchel.

THAT is an interesting idea.
You certainly can open a dispute in ebay for not as described and the reason you choose (of the choices ebay gives) would be "doesn't seem authentic." While not a completely accurate reason, it's the closest to the reason you'd be returning it.

In that case, the seller would have to accept the return and issue a prepaid return shipping label if she wants it back. If the seller doesn't agree to the return, i.e., if she doesn't approve it, you can escalate to have ebay resolve.

Unfortunately, that's probably what I'd do since I'd not want to carry a questionable bag and would want to resell it after I was done using and couldn't sell if I didn't know that it was authentic.

With regard to Coach being able to authenticate their own sample, I don't know. It's possible they have someone somewhere within the company who might be able to do it but I've heard of too many cases where they've "authenticated" fakes as genuine and genuine items as fake.

Their company policy disallows employees from authenticating because they aren't trained to do so. But if there's an archivist, maybe that person is more knowledgeable.

Assuming authenticity, I don't think this newer style is one that Coach would restore and resell. They seem to concentrate of the vintage and classic styles.

Wherever these sellers are getting their so-called samples, I don't know, but if the items are really Coach products, there should and would be some type of documentation, at least so there's a proof of purchase and an employee can't be accused of theft. No seller has ever shown any type of proof.
