There were several similar styles.

I believe that the black one is 4730 and is called (I think) combination wallet.

I don't know the name or style number of the brown one.
Awesome thanks. There is another wallet called the combination wallet #4895, but that is not buffalo right? I read that on TPF that 4730 had wallets like mine with the hidden tab underneith vs on the front. Thanks

The style of 4730 changed over the years, first having an exposed snap and then a hidden one around 1993. The style number was changed to 4859. None of the ads I have mention buffalo leather for them.

Ok thanks for clarifying . I had the wallet with the tab on the outside new in box last year 4730 and it said water buffalo on the box with a tiny book about it inside. Cartoons. I think it was from the 80's. But I have no idea with this wallet since the style changed over the years and I don't have the box or paperwork.

You are correct. It's fake.

Oops, sorry. I stand corrected on that point.

Thansk.
It doesn't mean they weren't water buffalo; I just don't have any documentation that says it is. There was a water buffalo booklet that came with some wallets in the 80s when they were made in NYC. It's possible they used water buffalo on earlier wallets but it is unclear whether they continued to do so for wallets produced later on.

Remember 2006 Legacy? Many of the items were vachetta but the ads and creeds didn't mention it.
