They sent more photos! I’ve attached below and also copied the listing link again. I did brighten the creed photo, so the color is super wonky. Please let me know if this is enough info for authentication. Thank you!

It's probably a 9170 Classic Shoulder Bag from the early or mid 1980s.

Hello,

Can you please authenticate the following:

Item: coach curtis

Site poshmark

Seller: sydhawth517

Thank you.

This is a really weird one. I need a few more pairs of eyes.

@whateve and @BeenBurned, can you take a look? The plant looks like C or G, but the font doesn't match anything in my files for either one. I'd feel safe calling it fake but the overstamping marks seem to be exactly what they should be for each letter, and I don't remember seeing any fake with accurate overstamping marks before. Can you eagle-eyed ladies take a look?

The stitching around the base is pretty rough too.

ETA - Every 9975 Curtis so far has been from the D plant except one C plant on Ebay that has a similar font to this one but the creed pic won't Zoom in.

Thanks!

I was just researching that same one and though I didn't find much currently online, I found 2 1995 C plant creeds in my records, one from the same month as in question. (They're different style bags.)

I think the bag from sydhawth417 on Poshmark is fake.

That was my feeling too but those apparently accurate overstamping marks threw me. The "Made In..." line would already have been in the body of the C plant creed by March or April 1995 too. That's definitely one for the Questionable folder.

Clever little crooks, to figure out the overstamping marks and then find a stamping mechanism that could make them. They didn't realize they'd have to copy the font exactly as well. I wonder when that one was actually made?

ETA - And I wonder, with vintage Coach prices going nuts, how long it's going to take for the crooks who made those fake classic styles 20 and 30 years ago to start making them again?

Thanks, BB! :flowers:

Yup, they threw me too. That's why I started searching to see if I could find others like it.

I also found several other Sept. 1995 C plant bags in the completed listings, NONE of which look anything like sydhawth417 's creed. (It would be interesting to see the back of the snap!)

Call me cynical but I'd be curious to know how (and why) she'd have so many Coach alligator bag. (There are 8 of them in various styles and sizes.)

I agree that it seems unlikely that a counterfeiter would take the time and materials to copy these styles.

This listing shows a lousy picture of the creed and I brightened and enlarged. I can't read the serial number. but it looks like it says it was made in 2001. But does the plant code looks like "S" to you?

Hi cynical, sorry for the late relpy!
I found out that she has so many coach alligator bag cause she used to be a Coach PR from 90s to 20s.
The creed on the green one looks like a No. E1E - 8166 or E1B-8166 to me!
thank u !
And by the way while checking the small black alligator bag I found a print on the inside edge said Genuine alligator , made in italy. coach black bag print.jpg

Yes, it makes sense that, by law, they'd have to be marked with the type of leather and country of manufacture.

So she may have bought them at Sample sales. I wonder if she and the other employees were ever told that samples were not to be re-sold? I saw that mentioned somewhere very recently, and found something else when I searched for "Coach samples".

And I've wondered for years - did sample buyers get any kind of receipt? So far every seller who's claimed to be selling "samples" on Ebay has never shown any kind of Proof of Purchase. Do they slide by without paying city and state sales taxes? I can't see politicians like "Cuddler" Cuomo and his predecessors letting that happen.

I don't have a clue if these people are selling legit samples or not since they're all newer bags (they're located in the UK), but their apparently Google-protected site says
"...Now that we’re all clear on what sample bags are, let me address an important question: How do they end up in the hands of us mere mortals who just love having something special from our favorite brand? This is how: These bags are made available to purchase in a Coach sample sale, however, these are only open for Coach employees. Bought at good prices, Coach employees often sell them on (though they are probably not supposed to, but shhh we won’t tell), and this is how they end up in the reselling market..."

Hi cynical
Interesting info! yes, it 's possible that she bought them at sample sales, or she got some for free since she was a Coach PR before. As far as I know, sample sale items can be resell and are often resell on second hand market. I think they should have receipts and payed for tax but if they want to earn some bucks they would not upload the receipt hhh!
Thank u for ur info!

It's E1E-8166. It's a shame her creed photos aren't better.

The 2001 exotics weren't quite as detailed as the 1999 styles. It looks like most of them just had regular leather zipper pulls and stamped leather creed patches although a few still had the metal plaques. Most if not all were still made in Italy. We talked about an 8190 mis-marked as a 6153 in one of these threads a few months ago.

plus an 8389 Alligator Clutch, an 8924 Alligator Demi, and probably my last remaining Holy Grail bag that I've only seen once and probably could never afford it even if I found one, I'm not even going to name it, I'd just jinx myself. The strap would probably be too short anyway.
