Hi there, I just bought and received this bag from an eBay seller...however, I was surprised to see that the turn lock has obviously been replaced (there seems to be evidence of this, as there is a bit of verdigris under the new-looking turnlock; also, the back of the turnlock has those tell-take indentations). This information was not disclosed in the listing description.

So all this being said, I feel suspicious about the bag as a whole. Can you please authenticate or tell me if this is a fake? All of this is bumming me out over a purchase I was so excited about...

Item name: Coach Court bag

Serial no.: H4C-9870

Is there any way you can post a larger more readable photo of the creed and serial number, and show a bit more of the pocket area around the creed stamp?

It may have been easier to replace the turnlock than to clean it. The one on the bag looks brand new.

I'm thinking it's a genuine Court Bag with a non-Coach replacement turnlock. More opinions are welcome.

I agree. It looks authentic to me.

Thank you Hyacinth and whateve--I really appreciate your opinions.

Sorry about the crummy photos--it was hard to get the creed in a pic without shadow. Here are a couple of others...ImageUploadedByPurseForum1431742984.776303.jpgImageUploadedByPurseForum1431742998.515183.jpg

(I lightened the first photo to try to capture the wording as best as possible.)

In the meantime, I examined the strap, which felt unusually hard--it just didn't have that nice supple feel to it that my other vintage Coach bags have. The edging and details also look somewhat off to me.

So all that being said, the bag itself is in great shape and feels lovely, as it should. I think you are both right: The bag is authentic, though the turn lock has been replaced. I also think the strap was missing and a non-Coach one was used instead.

Anyway--thank you again for your input!! I'm asking for a refund. I love the bag itself but am a little nonplussed that these other things weren't disclosed.

Everything else looks fine, it has the right creed and serial number stamps and fonts, the strap looks like it might have been replaced though - the buckle isn't standard Coach, along with the other things you mentioned.

It's a good example of why a bag shouldn't be assumed to be fake just because of a "wrong" turnlock. Any time a part that can and often is replaced (turnlock, strap, hangtag, etc) isn't original, we always need at least one more solid proof before declaring or reporting it as fake.

We really need to see the entire creed, including the number, in order to authenticate. That said, I don't see any problems with what I can see.

Looks genuine, not sure about spacing - Mini Canteen Bag - Real Coach? I'm a little confused with after 1994 codes in creed. First letter is month from A - M (a few N's slipping through & skipping i) BUT, there are 12 months in a year, so that would be A - J. What month would the K,L & M be?
From the code in this bag, I believe it was made in 1995 at M plant, but month is L?
After search, I found 1 other 9982 currently on eBay & 7 completed listings. (One a fake because it looks nothing like a Mini Canteen Bag) So, I'm thinking this is genuine? Thanks for opinions

Any problems seen here? I noticed that in the creed the "o" in No has a long underline & wondered if it's OK.

Once again, check the Salearea Coach Guides on Creeds and Serial Numbers, the "missing" month codes are mentioned.
http://search.reviews.ebay.com/members/salearea_W0QQcpnameZmembersQQprZsaleareaQQuqtZg

Year codes are ALWAYS numbers. The sequence should be Month, Year, Plant.

Sometimes the order of the digits would accidently get flipped and instead of "L5M-" a prefix might get stamped "5LM-" but that doesn't mean the bag is fake. Neither does the accidental use of an "N" or an "i" as a month code especially if it's from the middle 1990s and a non-US plant like Italy, Costa Rica, the DR or Turkey.

The "other" 9982 in Completeds is NOT fake. The seller doesn't post the full serial number but I absolutely GUARANTEE that it's NOT a post-1994 number with date codes and a style number. And again, read the six Salearea Coach Guides. Those Guides will be referred to over and over again,.and most of the common questions about Coach details and "rules" are answered in them so I strongly suggest Saving or Bookmarking the link where you can find it easily, or saving the actual Guides in a Documents file.

Don't ever "assume" that everything a seller posts about names, dates, style numbers, serial numbers, or what "era" in which a bag was made, is accurate unless you can actually see the evidence for yourself in their photos, or can verify it with an expert.

If I've already covered a subject or question in the Salearea Guides, all I'm going to do here at tPF is point you to them. If the answer is already there, I'm not going to repeat it here - that's one of the reasons I researched and authored the Guides after Salearea kindly offered to publish them. Just like The X Files - "The truth is out there".

Thanks, I'll check guides again. I had corrected to ask "Month is L", but you answered before I saw my mistake. Thanks again for your patience.

Ooops! Bought this without authenticating. I think its a Oliver Bag, 9902. First time I saw one and got excited. Had one back in the early 90's and loved the size. Please take a look and confirm for me.
