Good Evening,

I just picked up this cutie from a local consignment shop, feels pretty good about it, but would like your expert opinion, about the authenticity of this customerized 1941 collection Dinky.

Please can you also authenticate this bag. This belongs to a friend. She came shopping with me at goodwill today. I am kind of concerned because I cannot read the creed. There is a tag inside the purse which reads h1493-f34607. She also noticed that the handle is worn and was wondering if anyone had advice on how to get a purse repaired. Thank you.

Hello would you please authenticate this little bag I purchased from the estate sale? It measures about 9" x 7" x 3"

When the serial number is hard to read, please include the number itself in your post.

If the style number is 4916, it's fake. That number is for a Sonoma Bucket. And "V" has never been a US plant code.

The bag is genuine but the seller's description is WAAAAAY off. It's NOT a Bonnie Cashin-era style nor was it designed by her. I can see the remains of a very faint serial number under the creed which dates the bag to some time between the very early 1980s to 1988, NOT the 1960s. And it's NOT a Metropolis Bag, it's a style 9760 Camera Bag which wasn't even introduced until late 1986 according to the Holiday 1986 catalog that I have right in front of me where that style is clearly shown as "NEW". (Coach DID make several styles with the Metropolis name but only for 1997.) The seller is twenty-five YEARS off on her dates.

If you're specifically looking for Cashin bags, be skeptical when a seller tells you that's what her item is. Probably 90 percent of bags listed as Bonnie Cashin are NOT. Cashin stopped collaborating with Coach in 1974, so Cashin-era bags don't have creed stamps or serial numbers, and will usually but not always have her label or lining, not a stamped Coach creed. And Cashin bags have been faked too. All Coach bags, wallets, keychains and other items should be authenticated here before buying.

If you like the bag based on its style, that's fine, but please don't buy it thinking that it's some rare and super-old Coach connected to the name of a famous designer. It's not. Always ask here before buying a Coach based on what the seller CLAIMS it is.

Thanks for the verification! I knew it wasn't a Cashin for sure. The titles did not mislead me! ;)

I feel like most of the bags from this seller are at a fair priced so wanted to see if can be trusted. Thank you very much for this. Learning so much!

Actually would like to authenticate this one too if you don't mind, debating which one to be my first treasured vintage coach.

Genuine, probably from around 1980, so also not a Cashin bag.

It's genuine and from 1998, but please note the seller's statement that the long shoulder strap is missing. Those can be hard to find in good condition and in the exact color.
That's a good point about the strap color. I was thinking I could just use the strap from my plaza (in mahogany). Will think about this. Thank you!!

Please can someone authenticate this coach bag. I found it at Goodwill which does not guarantee authenticity.

Be sure to include the seller's ID in your requests.

Seller skyestudios

The seller has a history spamming the "Bonnie Cashin" name in her listings and in fact, it was pointed out in the past. (I'm willing to bet that skyestudios knows her items aren't Bonnie Cashin but whether she realizes the dings to her account should her buyers file SNAD (not as described) cases, the dings to her account could hurt her ability to sell on ebay!)

In fact, in this post from last October, I commented on how many of her current and completed listings used "Bonnie Cashin" in them but were not BC:

Her history also includes a lot of exaggeration of the age of her bags. This one, advertised as 1980s was made in 1995:

As Hyacinth warned, you aren't always getting items that are as "vintage" or as "BC" as described.

The bag is authentic BUT Goodwill is wrong about not guaranteeing authenticity, not selling items as authentic or claiming items are donations and they are allowed to sell what they take in.

Like any seller, whether online, thrift store, yard sale or consignment store, Goodwill and sellers are prohibited from selling counterfeit items, knowingly or not.

Since fakes are illegal, it's the store's responsibility or seller's responsibility to verify and confirm authenticity before selling any item. If they don't know, they're required by law to find out. And if an item is deemed fake or if authenticity can't be confirmed, sale of the item isn't allowed.

The bottom line is that if someone is fooled by a fake at Goodwill, they should fight for the store to take the return, at the very least offering an exchange.

Please post a picture of the white tag with the 2 rows of numbers.

(It's not unusual for a textured creed to be difficult to read.)
