Hello Authenticators!
If time and energy permit, will you please look at this interesting "Briefcase" and give me your opinion of whether or not it is an authentic Coach bag, and if so, what it might be called or when it was made?

Item: Bonnie Cashin Briefcase-Messenger bag
Seller: Kash38
Item No.: Ebay #29403809323
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/True-Vintage-Bonnie-Cashin-Briefcase-Messenger-Cross-Body-Bag-Black-Leather/294038091323?_trkparms=aid=1110006&algo=HOMESPLICE.SIM&ao=1&asc=20200818141841&meid=b43b396cbee846db900cd4c627ef0802&pid=101111&rk=6&rkt=12&mehot=pf&sd=184480116141&itm=294038091323&pmt=0&noa=1&pg=2563228&algv=DefaultOrganic&brand=Unbranded&_trksid=p2563228.c101111.m2109
I don't think it's Coach or Bonnie Cashin. There's no marking indicating a brand and the item specifics call it "unbranded."

From the description: "This bag has all the hallmarks of early Coach but I believe it’s Bonnie Cashin . No label. No signature on bag."

I don't think it's Coach or Cashin either. There are no unique Cashin details, and the dowel detail was something that I don't believe Coach even used until the early 1990s. The metal rings attaching the strap to the dowel also seem to be on the thin and cheap side.

Both Coach and Cashin would have put their names on that bag if it had been made during the late years of the 20th Century. Any manufacturer could legally copy any and all details that Coach or Cashin used on their bags and briefcases. It may have been "inspired by" Coach, probably some time in the 1990s, but I think that's as far as it goes.

And the seller can get an account ding for keyword spamming, which is the use of unrelated brand names that don't describe the item.

TBH,, I haven't really followed too closely, not because I don't want to help with Coach Disney (Snoopy, Nasa, Marvel, etc) items but because so many of those collections are alleged to be "Japanese collaborations" but are absolutely and unquestionably fake.

Another thing I've noticed about the fakes in Japanese listings is that I don't think it's an accident that pictures are just blurry enough that you can't read tags, receipts or paperwork, listings don't include enough or the proper angles of pictures and images in listings don't enlarge.

But now that you asked the question about the Disney creed on a Disney item, I did a bit of hunting and found some items I believe to be authentic (from US sellers) and those with creed pictures show the Disney creed.

So in answer to your question, "Is that a bad sign or something you've seen in some genuine Coach-Disney items?" IMO, it IS a bad sign.

Note that it's ironic that the fakers DID put a Disney creed on a Nasa item! This Japanese seller's item was purchased by a US buyer/reseller and subsequently listed on ebay by that reseller.

So the caveat is that even if there's a Disney creed, that doesn't mean the item it's on is genuine!

Thanks! And I've seen the Disney creed in non-Disney fakes too, but a generic creed in a Disney item just set off a bunch of warning sirens. I was going to break my Rule about not trying to authenticate recent styles, but I've been wrong before and wanted to see if those warning sirens in my head were justified. A Disney item without the Disney trademark prominently displayed is just wrong. Any underlings at the Mouse House who signed off on that kind of arrangement would be kicked out on their collective butts. If they don't protect their trademarks and copyrights, they risk losing them.

Thank you BeenBurned and Hyacinth! I'm very glad I asked first, instead of giving in to wishful thinking. You ladies are the best!

I'm certain that it's fake and would like to see a link to the instagram seller's listings. (Without knowledge of where the seller is, I'm guessing it's PI.)

1. Although the bag has the "correct" style number on the creed, the text of the creed says that it's a reimagination of the convertible waist pack from 1992." This is NOT a waist pack!
2. The creed patch is a mess - sealant, logo, description, stamping
3. The picture on the creed isn't even the same bag as it's on!
