Can you please tell me if this bag is authentic, and if so, what year it is? It has the older creed from the 1980s, but the style number is from the 90s. It also doesn't have the word "Leatherware" under the name Coach.

Comments: Thank you!!

Coaches made in different plants, even in the same month and year, will have different details in those creed and serial stamps. The ONLY comparison you can ever make between the creeds and serial numbers of vintage (20 years old or older) bags is between two bags of the same style and made in the same plant, month and year. The stamps changed every few years and not every plant had the same details or fonts in their stamps or even received their new stamps from Coach at the same.

What you're referring to as a 1980s creed was used until at least 1993 by one or two plants, and as late as 1996 in several others. Creeds and serial numbers were stamped separately and often a plant might receive a new or updated stamp of one of those elements long before they received the other one. Determining WHICH stamp or format a bag should have been using is not something you can figure out on your own, at least not until you have years of experience and a well-trained eye for detail.

The IMPORTANT things are that the details of the bag and the stamp be accurate for the month, year and plant when and where they were made. That's why they need to be authenticated by comparing them with photos of the same items with exactly the same details.

The one you're asking about is genuine, made in Coach's "C" plant in October 1994. For more details on creeds and serial numbers, read the Salearea Coach Guides posted and Pinned here at the Coach Shopping forum:

And PLEASE use extreme caution where dates are involved! Almost allso-called "authenticity guides" posted on the internet in the last 20 years have incorrect dates and details. Don't EVER try and figure out authenticity based on their mistakes! The Salearea Guides are possibly the only accurate source of dating details and even there, some variation is possible. Any and every online "guide" should be assumed either partly or completely wrong, and NO "guide" can ever prove that a Coach is genuine. The Salearea Guides simply try to point out common details found in fakes, determining if they're genuine takes a human brain and a HUGE photo file.

Hi Authenticators!

I bought this bag from a seller on Poshmark and didn't have any reason to believe it was anything other than authentic. However, when I listed it on Mercari recently, they pulled it from their site due to potentially not being authentic. I feel awful that something in my listing gave them the impression of the item not being inauthentic. I very much appreciate Mercari's commitment to selling only authentic items.

Comments: I didn't find anything to do with the listing or bag in person, that would cause alarm. However, I am not an expert by any means. In my listing, I did add in a Coach box (because it fit the bag well) that I noted was not the original box. That is the only thing I can think of to cause alarm. I don't know if Mercari has an algorithm that picks up key words but that is the only thing I can think of that could have caused the removal. Would very much appreciate your expertise. I'm posting the original purchase information and by no means want to draw attention to the seller bc I didn't have any reason to believe the bag was a fake.

Hi authenticators! Can I please have this bag looked at? Thank you so much!

It's authentic. I don't have any information on the style. I've only seen it a few times, always with an A plant creed, so it may have never been made in mass quantities.

@CPSE - were you the buyer? If you were, welcome to the Coach Mystery Bag Club!

@whateve - aaaah, yes, "consuming mass quantities..."

Hi! I'm new so I hope I'm doing this correctly. I won two auctions the other day, captivated by the colors, and am now concerned about the authenticity of my purchases. I found older posts about this eBayer selling both authentic bags and fakes... Hoping you Coach pros could let me know what you think of these two --

Comments: I don't have any older bags marked Coach Leatherware so I wasn't sure about the wording change on the creed or if the serial numbers offer any help (weren't they unique then?)

Comments: Worried about a bag stamped as made in the United States in 1996 having an "L" as the plant location

Thank you so much for your help!
Both are authentic. The city bag was made late 80s, early 90s; the station bag was made in 1996.
Although those 2 bags are fine, the seller had other fakes reported within the last few days. (Two posts in a row.)

I'm not seeing any photos of the serial number. Without that and without any measurements the bag really can't be authenticated or identified. It's possible that maybe the creed's location in the outside pocket is what someone thought was a red flag. If the bag doesn't have any inside pocket for the creed, that might be the reason.

Mercari has flagged genuine bags before and missed some fakes, so please don't depend on their claimed "expertise".

that's funny! I remember that! lol!!! I have consumed mass quantities.... of Coach ...omg
ETA Gilda in the background?

Gilda was amazing, wasn't she? Both she and John left us much too soon. That's a really good clip, I hope you can play the entire thing. I LOVED the Coneheads!

Here's the URL if the clip won't play for some countries in that format, I've broken it up so just put it back in one piece. Hope that works.
