This is strange. The creed and serial look completely genuine, but where are the 2 pen pockets on the inside? The creed is in the right place but I don't see any pen pockets or any hint such as stitching holes in the leather to show that it ever had pen pockets. A discrepancy like that at the plant probably would have meant a quick trip to the outlet store.

One possibility is that the inside pocket was replaced by Coach and they added a new creed and serial stamping. Maybe the owner asked them to leave out the pen slots? That's the only explanation I have for it. I HOPE the bag is genuine, but if that pocket was replaced and the new one re-stamped by Coach, we just have to trust that they did it to a genuine Coach and not a fake. That would be a new way of covering up a counterfeit though! We've seen pockets actually cut out of authentic Coaches and sewn into fakes, but would someone actually try to get a pocket in a fake replaced by Coach with a new pocket and a genuine creed and serial?

It's PROBABLY genuine, but I can't explain the missing pen slots in the pocket. I'd also like to see the backs of the buckles for any stampings if you decide to buy it.

@Hyacinth , do you recall this unusual Legacy Zip without the pen slots? She's here now and appears the same as the other 5 Zips I've restored (other than that feature).

Here are some additional photos including the back of the buckles as you requested:

So odd. They even put the creed to the side like they expected to make the seams for the pen slots. It appears completely authentic to me.

Is it possible that it might have been a special request and someone didn't want the pen slots so they just didn't put them in?

I know there is a thread for really bad fakes, but I couldn't remember the name of it, so i posted it here.

I don't believe that bag is a fake. I think the seller is mistaken in thinking it's "Coach" but without any markings or implication that it's a Coach, it's a designer inspired (legal) bag and the seller is only guilty of keyword spamming.

This is the Hall of shame thread:

Yes, everything else looks right, so I don't see any reason to think it's not genuine either. I never was a fan of those stiff leather pen slots anyway.

Hi ladies. I purchased this Murphy and then had a bit of an upsetting time, allowing the return window to expire without paying too much attention to it. Today I noticed the turnlock’s female part has grooves on the back. It was a bargain buy but I don’t want to waste time rehabbing a fake. Can you let me know if it is authentic or not? Thanks

Yes, it's fake. It is illegal to sell fakes, so you might still be able to get your money back.

Sorry, your suspicions are correct, it's fake. The font used in the serial number isn't right for that plant and year either.

How long ago did you buy it, and from where?
