Wow, thank you. I am glad I asked. And thank you for the detailed response. I'm learning more about vintage Coach everyday.

That entire thread that includes both the Coach Salearea Guides and the Daria48 Fake Coach Numbers List, plus updated information on recent fakes, is the best place to start. Unlike 98 percent of the so-called "authenticity guides" on the internet, these 2 are not only accurate, but we also try to keep them current. There's a TON of good information there, although it's crammed into a small space especially in the Salearea Guides and can be confusing until you've read it at least 3 or 4 times. The information on Creeds, Serial Numbers, and the MISinformation found in almost every other "guide" is especially useful to anyone who buys or sells vintage Coach bags. I can personally vouch for its accuracy, since I researched, wrote and have updated the Guides beginning almost 10 years ago.

Information about fake serial numbers that has come to our attention more recently can usually be found in the "Answers to Authenticity Questions" thread that's also Pinned or Stickied to the top of each Coach Shopping forum's Index page, or at the end of the Salearea Guides thread.

That "Sticky" section of the Index has some of the most valuable Coach information on the internet, once someone finds it and learns how to use it.

It's FAKE.

I can read most of the serial number with no problem since it's been on the Daria48 Fake Coach Numbers list for at least 8 or 10 years - 0444-315 or -316 with a bunch of fake "overstamping" lines above and below every number. But I guess at least 35 other Posh members including a "Posh Ambassador" never bothered to look up the list, which is sad. And no one apparently bothered to actually look closely at the creed - look at the word that's SUPPOSED to be "scrAtches" and tell me what you see.

Or they could have just Googled the numbers:

Both numbers are mentioned in many of the links above, as well as photos of many completely different styles, all with EXACTLY the same serial numbers, which is a HUGE red flag. And some poor soul will end up wasting their hard-earned money on that fake because not only does Poshmark not make any real effort to find and remove fakes, but when someone is unfortunate enough to buy one, it's very hard to even get your money back.

ALWAYS have any Coach items at Posh authenticated BEFORE you buy.

ETA - from the first part of the Daria48 Fake Numbers List, posted right here at tPF in the same thread as the Salearea Coach Guides:

Under "Always Fake"
" 0444-317, 0444-316 AND 0444-315 and possibly others beginning with 0444 - some "classic" fakes are showing up with these numbers and have a number of mistakes in the creed stamps and on the bags themselves. Assume they're all fake. "
Hello Hyacinth,

are there genuine City bags with two seams on bottom? Thanks!

Good morning, all! Requesting authentication for this bag, please:
Item: Red Ergo Pocket Zip
Seller and site where listed: Robin Asher, Mercari
Link: https://merc.li/XeEEKRppb
Comments: I have a black Ergo flap made 2 years prior to this in the same J factory, and the font is different on the serial number. So just wondering...

Thanks in advance!
This bag is fake.

And if you have another with a similar creed, you should have it checked. You refer to the "same J factory" but this bag (even if authentic) wasn't made in the J plant.

Would you please authenticate. I had purchased the British tan off of mercari and the red was purchased off of Facebook market place. Thank you!

Both are authentic.

Please remember to include links and seller IDs. (Sometimes facebook links aren't viewable but the user ID should be available. Mercari links should show as does seller ID.)
