  • Item: Coach Leopard Diaper Bag
Purchased on second hand site - Mercari
Comments: I'm a naive buyer and think I might have just made a mistake... should have looked into this BEFORE buying. I have three days to return though. It feels like fake leather and there are tiny marks on the bottom edges that are rubbing off white. See pics. Also see the handle.
  • I appreciate any advice you have to offer. Thank you

I don't see any problems although neither the listing nor your pictures show the interior pocket layout.

I think what you've noticed about the texture and peeling is that the bag isn't a leather bag. It's PVC coated canvas and what you're seeing is areas where the PVC coating rubbed off.

The area on the strap looks as though sealant peeled or cracked.

There are rehabbers who might be able to tell you how to reseal the strap.

Or, as the multiple pieces of the lining were being sewn together, someone on the production line grabbed the wrong panel and sewed it where it wasn't supposed to be.

I've compared the creed of this bag with another one from the same plant, month and year that's currently listed on Ebay (there are 18 others currently listed), and they're identical. The creed is a much better indication of authenticity than a misplaced zipper. Mistakes in production HAPPEN.

And as BeenBurned has already said, please don't spend time photographing zipper brands. The name stamped on a zipper mechanism has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether or not the Coach is authentic. That lie has been floating around the internet for at least 15 years and it's just as wrong today as it was then. Don't believe everything you read on the internet especially when it's from anonymous sources who can't back up their statements.

After looking at the zipper on the liner, it looks to be added by a previous owner. The threading is coming apart and it looks a bit sloppy. I didn't really notice it at first. I just thought it was an odd place for Coach to put a zipper.

Will you share on the rehab thread what kind of conditioner she uses? Thanks in advance!

I haven’t asked. I will if I find out. Might be Kiwi leather lotion. I used that before I got into vintage. I have a beautiful Coach metallic leather bag I used it on. It made it so soft and pretty but the scent was overwhelming. Not stinky but like a very strong perfume. It smelled for weeks.

Hello again! Could I trouble the wonderful authenticators for opinions on a few more bags?

Item: Coach New York Vintage Stewardess - Tan
Listing number: ? (not sure how Posh does item numbers)
Seller: zmontiel
Link: https://poshmark.com/listing/Coach-New-York-Vintage-Stewardess-Tan-5e0b8dc1d948a187e96d4b82
Comments: Any thoughts on how easy or not it would be to repair the damage? Or if it could be used without fixing those issues?

Item: Vintage Made in NYC Coach Stewardess bag
Listing number: ?
Seller: linz12386
Link: https://poshmark.com/listing/Vintage-Made-in-NYC-Coach-Stewardess-bag-5ea9d9a5bb5937e5cd1a330d
Comments: Reading recent posts from @Hyacinth, I know color is hard to determine! The seller says this is a darker brown, and I'm looking more for tan. Is it possible that a dark brown bag would have lightened this much with age?

Item: Coach Stewardess Bag Tabac (British Tan?) Leather With Brass Hardware Style No 9525 Made In The Factory In New York City-
Listing number: 688416806
Seller: ProVintageGear
Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/688416806/summer-sale-coach-stewardess-bag-tabac
Comments: Looks as though the stitching on one of the pockets has come apart at the corner. I'm thinking a shoe repair store could probably fix this, if necessary - thoughts? Also, searching through this forum, it looks as though this seller has an...interesting...history.

Thank you again!!

Edited to delete one bag. Sorry!
All are authentic. I think the first one would be a big rehab challenge. If you don't repair the damage, it will get worse as those are areas of stress. The leather texture looks worn out and there might be mold. It is possible to repair the damage with leather glue and puffy paint but I think it would be difficult to get it looking like new. It's hard to tell color in photos. I believe the pictures of the second one were taken with flash, which could account for the lighter color it appears. It doesn't appear to be dark enough to be mahogany but you can't really tell in a photo. It could be the same color as the third one. Neither are tan IMO. I believe a shoe repair store could fix the tear in the third one.
Thanks so much for these! The first one seems out of my league. I really appreciate your advice! Thank you again!

Hi again! The Poshmark seller for the second bag posted some photos taken outside. I understand color is really hard to tell from photos. If anyone has the inclination, I would appreciate your opinions on how dark you think the color truly is. I am looking for a lighter brown, any of the variations of that would be fine (British Tan, Tabac, Putty, others?). Thanks in advance!

Hi. Please authenticate this bag if you can. Notice the circled area on one picture. There's a zipper there. No posts for these bags mentions anything about it. I already purchased the bag from Goodwill and planned to clean and list it but need to be sure it's authentic.

No. M0873-13382

Other than that weird zipper on the bottom of the bag, I don't see any red flags.

Does the zipper look like it may have been added by a previous owner? Is the construction/insertion sloppy or amateurish?

In the future (and if you list it), showing the zipper brand is a waste of time, unnecessary and has nothing to do with authenticity.

Other opinions are welcome.

It is odd but as long as it doesn't bug you, the bag is fine.
