For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

I just looked up and studied the -9145 model. I agree that's the vintage Coach style this red bag resembles. That's the info I was looking for as I'm always trying to learn more about vintage Coach bags....thanks much, SuzieSueSure!!

I'm not sure if you're aware but if you're not looking for an authentication then there is an I.D. thread where you can post identification requests instead of putting them here in the Authenticate thread. I see you got your answer on this bag but you may have better luck getting responses from many more members in the ID thread. Members might be hesitant to post here because only authenticators are supposed to comment on requests in this thread. Hope this helps!

The problem with the listing in question is that it shouldn't be posted on the other ID thread and can't be identified unless and until confirmed authentic and because the seller of that bag, HelloKimmy refuses to supply a picture of the creed, we can't help here either.

Good morning! Simply posting this out of curiosity. I also realize many folks on here may want to see this style and its authentication.

I’m sorry all if I spoke out of turn! I was trying to help and won’t next time. I greatly appreciate everyone’s expertise and sorry again!
I really hope my comment did not come across as accusatory. There are a LOT of threads in this forum and I was only trying to direct @K-Coach toward the ID thread in the event that it would be helpful for identifying any bags in question, not just the one posted earlier. Speaking only for myself, I won't comment at all on authentication requests unless it's to say how great of a deal or how gorgeous someone's find is. I thought maybe other members might be hesitant to comment as well. That's all.

@SuzieSueSure I'm sorry if it appeared that I singled you out for criticism, that was not my intent AT ALL. As far as I know, we can make comments on bags in this thread but we are not supposed to comment on whether or not we think a bag is authentic. It's too late for me to go back and edit my previous post to clarify what I meant. You did NOT speak out of turn. But now I feel like I did.... I'm sorry!

On the subject of which comes first

Remember, a "Coach" has to be known or proven authentic before it can be identified. If it's not authentic, it's not a Coach and doesn't deserve a Coach name. It's just a nameless and possibly illegal item.

Authentication first, identification second, always. Fakes don't deserve names. It's not really fair to ask members to spend time and effort trying to identify something that might have a few details that are different from the genuine version it's copying, especially when it's a listing from a site known to sell fakes. And let's face it, ALL of them have been known to sell fakes, some more than others.

Educated guesses are OK as long as it's made clear that it's not known if that item is genuine, like in some of the "Deals" posts where it will say the item needs to be authenticated before buying. Some posters new to these forums might not understand the difference, which is why any statement implying something IS or even just LOOKS authentic can only be posted at the forums's official authentication threads by the authorized authenticators. If someone else wants to help by supplying information or photos, we'll be grateful for the information.

Both genuine, I believe they're a City Bag and a Wall Street Briefcase, both from the 1980s
