I take issue with the tone of the posts..
The problem with online blogs is that "tone" and intent CANNOT be conveyed. And as such, innocuous posts (not just here but throughout cyberspace) are misinterpreted.

I do have some questions though. You alluded to having authority from the board of Authenticators. What gives that board their power? And are you and the other authenticators on that board?
I don't know who the "you" is that you're referring to when you say "you alluded to having authority from the board of Authenticators," but NO ONE here claimed that!

In fact, it was on ebay that VintageCoach4Less made that statement - multiple times on multiple threads.

In this one, he started a whole topic to complain about the very people who have helped him dozens (or maybe hundreds) of times over the last 7-8 years - posted here.

And here he said the same thing - posted here.

And in this post, he argued (through numerous posts) why an AUTHENTIC bag was fake. Even after being shown examples of why the bag was genuine, he wasn't convinced. - posted here.

Yet this person apparently bills himself as an authenticator and snaps at others who correct him when he's wrong.

As for your question about the board, it's a public ebay discussion board but the posters who read, post and lurk regularly, know who the experts are in which items.

What are your qualifications to be considered not just a knowledgeable person, but an expert? I don’t present myself as a handbag Authenticator so I would like to know.

Whatever your feelings are you should’ve helped the person who asked for it.
These two questions are exactly the same ones that were asked by another poster a few years ago. THere's a whole thread regarding authenticators on the ebay subforum in which your questions and many more are answered. You are welcome to search for it.

The bottom line is that the posters on TPF are volunteers and other than sharing their advice and expertise, they do so out of the goodness of their heart. In fact, they get no compensation, often not even a please or thank you and frequently, have to take abuse of posters who feel entitled or bitter because their "authentic" items are deemed fake.

And because we volunteer, the purse forum admin allow authenticators to pick and choose who they want to authenticate for, which sites they choose to avoid and and decide whether to authenticate personal items, online listings, gifts, purchases for resale, etc.

Note that on most of the other "authentic this" subforums, they don't authenticate for resellers because since resellers are in business, their thinking is that sellers should pay professionals for authentications. We don't do that here. (You're welcome.)

There was mention by an Authenticator about a board but I believe it’s been deleted.
Too much pettiness here. I don’t care about the history or personal feuding. That was the point I tried to make about professionalism but it went nowhere.
I’m looking for a positive experience and a place to learn about bags. Sadly, that will not happen here. You guys are too caught up in the drama. I’ve heard the volunteer spiel before and it falls on deaf ears, you do it because you like to do it. It seems like there’s nothing but dissension here. This forum should be about bags and their various topics not about personal vendettas.
If I get banned, so be it. I’m probably not returning anyway. I am a lover of bags with over 350 in my current collection, about 70 are vintage Coach. There are many plenty of other groups with a more positive slant on collecting and maintains bags. BTW, I’m a collector not a seller. I have no alliance to anyone except myself. I’d like to interact about bags and make new handbag friends without the baggage and personal attacks I’ve read here. Life is too short for all that negativity.

My first time posting here so I'm hoping I do this right. I have a number of Coach purses I would like authenticated, but I'll start with one to see how I do.

I don't remember where I found this one - a thrift store or a garage sale (most likely). It measures 10' x 5.5" x 2"

HI everyone-- could I please have this Chrystie bag authenticated? Bought on eBay and received today. I think it seems fine but decided to check for sure. Thanks in advance.
eBay listing: "Vintage Coach Brown Leather Crossbody Shoulderbag Purse & Dust Cover Bag 11x13”
item number: 254550457888
seller: debbiessecret

The serial number should make you nervous, serial numbers with "J" plant codes are mentioned in Part 1 of the Daria48Fake Numbers List
"D2J- serial number prefixes whenever they're part of a creed stamp that says the bag was made in the US. That code sequence was ONLY used for bags made in a Chinese plant, never an American one. And ALL serial prefixes with J as the third digit and a "Made in the US" creed need to be carefully authenticated, since the "J" plant in the US originally made only clothing items.
Since 1999 the J plant was ONLY used by a Chinese plant and should NEVER be found in any bags with creeds saying they were made in the USA...."

It's kind of buried in there,

You are too good! Thank you for highlighting that section of the Serial numbers list. I actually came on here now to re-read that list--I thought that prefix was troublesome. Yes, it would have been easier to request the photo before I bought it but I succumbed to the pretty color! Thank you, Hyacinth. You truly rock!
