BeenBurned and Touchofklass66 :

There are maybe 4 versions of the same style in my files, from both Thailand and Korea, and I believe all of them are genuine.None of the serial numbers on the outside patch match the numbers on the inside. The photo in the catalog for the same Wheel Along bag shows a similar oddball number on the outside. I'm wondering if the 5496 bags we've seen so far have been pilot bags from two plants that Coach was considering adding to their production partners. Thailand won, Korea lost. But this one and the ones BeenBurned just posted with Korea creeds seem completely genuine. This style is the only bag of any kind that Coach apparently made in Korea, and only for a very short time which is why I think it's an early example of the pilot bag program.

Here's the 2 creeds from the bag in question, CL8- 5496 on the outside and L8F-5496 on the inside. The "F" plant code was probably temporarily assigned to Korea in 1998 for this project, while a Thailand plant used the "L" plant code for several years. But all that is just an educated guess:

BTW, this was just mentioned recently - COACH HAS NEVER USED THE STYLE NAME "PILOT BAG" OR "PILOT'S BAG" ON ANY STYLE. Some gullible seller or poster at another site saw or heard the term and couldn't be bothered to research what it actually meant and started using it to describe one of the Metropolis styles. A Coach "pilot bag" is simply an early test run of a style to determine the potential market.

ETA - And yes, the statement I made on May 1, 2018 about Coach never making luggage in Korea was apparently wrong, But my other comments still hold.
