Since we are talking qbout colours...Just an interested question...I have a 97 Helens Legacy...would the colour it be called Yellow or Mustard?View attachment 4678559

It always helps if you can include the full serial number, a date code gives us a starting point for searching our photo files, In the 1990s, Coach usually changed color palettes with the seasons.

I looked through all six of the 1997 catalogs I have on file and there's no yellow or mustard shades shown in any of them for the Helen's Legacy.

In that photo the color looks more like British Tan to me than any shade of camel. BT is the only color I remember seeing listed that comes close to the shade in that photo. But like Whateve said, Coach sometimes had colors that weren't in the catalogs or were made for certain stores. Retail partners like Macy's have had color exclusives too. From the date code if the color had been in a catalog at all it would have been in either the Spring or Summer editions and I checked both of those. Here's the Summer 1997 listing, the colors for Spring 1997 were identical except for Periwinkle which was a Summer addition:

This is why I try not to get involved in color discussions, you can take 5 different photos of the same bag under different natural and artificial lighting conditions and post them with different programs and they can all look different on different viewers' equipment.

ETA - It's also possible that they were overstocked with leather in a a color not originally earmarked for that style and decided to use it up on a few other styles.Or maybe they received some BT hides in a lighter shade of BT than they had ordered. Who knows?

Thank you and Good Night.

They're two different styles, the "Legacy" version 9061 came in the late 1990s and was a "tribute" to the earlier Rambler Bag 9735 which was a 1980s-early 1990s style (probably from 1986 to 1991 but with a few later remakes). The original was much larger and had different details such as an extended tab turnlock. Click on the thumbnails to open them.

Thanks for the clarification & the photos. So many listings just say Rambler that I didn’t realize that they are totally different. The only other Rambler style I was aware of was the Legacy Archival Rambler. I learn something new every time I come to here!

Always keep in mind that Coach re-uses names constantly and also remakes older styles regularly. There are almost always going to be differences. Even Coach's leather today is nowhere close to what it was 20 or 30 years ago.

Just to use the Rambler as an example; I own one of the original versions, made in New York City in either 1986 or 1987, and it's LARGE, the leather is squishy-soft "like buttah" and even when pretty well packed (and it holds a TON!) it's still easy to carry because the softness of the leather lets it fit closely and comfortably against the body. It's an absolute joy to carry. I've never found any of the replacements to have the same "feel". The Rambler's Legacy is very popular though, and might have been an option but it's just too small for what I need to carry. If that's the size you need, it's a good choice.

Now that you say that I’m definitely going to be on the lookout for an original Rambler. It’s going to take some “downsizing” to use the one I bought but I love the shape, color & it looks like it’s in good condition.Even the Willis is a bit of a squeeze! I’m usually a big bag gal! Have to be prepared for any eventuality!
