Could you authenticate this purse? I believe it’s a Coach Penny. You’ll see it has some hand painting on it which I assume is from a previous owner. Number is 345-7820. Thank you very much.

I don't think it's a Penny since it's too recent and some of the style details like the strap and the clips aren't correct for that style.. If you can post the measurements (just use the REPLY button in your originla post to add them) we may be able to identify the style. All vintage bag questions and requests need to include measurements, Coach made a lot of similar styles back then.

It's authentic.

Whoever did the artwork did a decent job. I've seen some dreadful "embellishments!"

Measurements are 9.5” L, 6.5”W and 2”D
It's a pocket purse.

Years ago, someone here had a thread about painting on a bag that looked very similar to these flowers.

Thanks for your quick reply!

If there's a slip pocket underneath the flap it's probably a Pocket Purse, style number 9755 from the late 1980s. Pockets are also a critical detail with vintage bags and although there aren't any photos of that area of the bag, the rest is correct for that style. Pennys were an earlier style and unless they were remakes, would probably have a Made in New York City creed and a different strap.

Here's one of Coach's catalog pages from 1987:

This purse does have a pocket beneath the flap but the creed (above) says made in U.S.A. Here’s another picture:
