When you have a moment, would you please take a look at this bag and give me your opinion as to whether or not it's genuine?

Item: Style #9871
Seller: shoppingmy4kids [eBay]
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-CO...517981?hash=item23d14fb81d:g:eGUAAOSwKFNeK4mT
Comments: The bag is listed as a "Beaumont Satchel" however I was unable to find any old Coach pages online doing a quick search on Google and Pinterest to verify the name/number of the style and do some basic feature checks. If it is genuine, I would love to know it's proper name as well.

Thank you in advance for your time.

It's fine. Beaumont satchel is the correct style.

Here's a post where Hyacinth IDs one:

Hi. Please authenticate this Coach Station Bag. It was thrifted so I don't have an listing number or link. Please excuse the shiny spots on the leather. I didn't rub the leather conditioner well enough in those areas. The font on the serial number worries me, but I'm hoping that this is an older bag (maybe 1997) and it just has an older font on the lettering.

It looks like this item has been sold but I'm curious as to whether the buyer got genuine Coach hardware. I'm doubtful.

Although I don't patronize nor recommend Poshmark, this is where the listing came from.

Hmm. Although the title doesn't describe the items as "Coach" (unlike other similar listings he as that do use "Coach"), the Coach box in the picture implies the hardware is Coach.

I think we can assume that the box in that photo is a LIE. The seller has used other sellers' photos before and that is definitely NOT Coach hardware.

Genuine, made in 1997

I submitted my photos to Mercari Authentication anyway. Last time I submitted a Helen's Legacy with a normal serial number with style number format and they failed miserably. I just got email back from them "Our authentication team was unable to verify your item's authenticity. Your listing has been removed from Mercari."

Translation: We don't know jack about vintage coach and therefore not going risk letting you try to sell it on our site. We only allow cheap fakes to be sold on our site that are under $300.. but here's a coupon for $30 for items priced over $300! :giggle:
I think I might start ignoring Mercari authentication requests. In my experience, they don't respond to fake reports and they're as inept in authenticating as Poshmark.

Hello authenticators, I am sharing two more purchases that I would like to authenticate at your leisure. These are two that I am iffy about. Thank you so much for your time!

1. Brown Swingpack (I believe)
creed: E0D-9167 (this was quite difficult to see/photograph)

Both are genuine.
The first is a Legacy Top Of Counter Compartment Bag (I'm not kidding, that's the name on the webpage!) made in 2000.

the second is a Hamptons Leather Lunch Tote from 2001.

I understand your position on Poshmark and Mercari and agree that the people they employ aren't qualified to determine the authenticity of Coach bags. (Recent trends at eBay seem to suggest they're equally inept, removing genuine bags on the flimsiest of pretexts. But I digress.)

That being said, I can think of at least one reason to respond to those Poshmark and Mercari authentication requests here. If the bag was fake, you'd be doing a valuable service to potential buyers by warning them not to buy it. That would be a strike against both the seller and, indirectly, the platform they're selling on.

Just my 2 cents.

He did add a comment about a photo shoot, probably after most of us lost interest in his extensive knowledge (or lack thereof):
benmack1212 @houseof999 If I were buying for me, I'd buy directly from a place that promises authentication, for the investment. But when you have to buy a lot of bags for a shoot and are on a budget, you look everywhere. Do any of your vintage bags come with docs? We've never used posh bags before.

LOL! And did anyone read the followups to see who is defending and affirming @Hyacinth's expertise?

BTW, although I haven't needed to use them for Coach, I've used Authenticate4U for Prada, Fendi, Hermes, Burberry, Gucci and other brand authentications. They use brand specialists and when I have an item verified there, I know it was done by someone who knows the brand.

And benmack1212 might want to do a bit of research on TRR. They've deemed a lot of fakes as authentic and authentic items as fake. Some some of those fakes have been sold to buyers who trusted them.

Sorry, but I call his "answer" TOTAL BS. It does nothing to explain WHY they need a vintage Coach for a photo. Who The F*** is going to know that it's even a Coach except for the hangtag, and Who The F*** is going to care???

Next he'll be showing a photo of a pile of different generic handbags with an added line drawing made by a red Sharpie of a square with handles and the name "Coach" written on it.
