HANG ON, there may be a problem.

The padding above the turnlock in the briefcase photo has a curved bottom that follows the shape of the turnlock, just like a genuine Willis. But the 5266 Beekman shouldn't have that shape. There are 2 different turnlock tab designs depending on the year and this doesn't match either one.

An Ebay Search for Coach (Beekman,5266) doesn't turn up ANY with a Willis-style curved bottom turnlock leather tab.

I think it MAY be fake.

Here's the photo of the turnlock on the briefcase being questioned:

Have a couple to check on, these are local and I don't have a link to share.

First is a briefbag that reminds me of a Willis family member and the second is a court bag. Any help or insight is greatly appreciated.

The court is authentic. The briefcase is probably okay but I can't read the creed.

I lighted the creed but I still can't read the prefix.

Yeah, I think it's fake.

I agree with Whateve. All briefcases changed to a newly designed turnlock early in 1996, the date code in this one is from too late in the year. There are 2 very similar fonts used in *6R- serial prefixes and one looks less authentic than the other. This one matches the less authentic one, and the Coach name in the cartouche above the creed is a bit too big compared to the cartouche surrounding it and to other genuine logos from the same period. The padding in the leather above the turnlock is also completely wrong for any Beekman made in 1996, see the catalog page I posted here a few hours ago from the Spring 1996 catalog.

One last proof is that there are only two pen slots on the inside organizer pocket when all Beekmans 1996 or newer should have 3.

Here's a thumbnail of a comp posted by BeenBurned a while back. The left one is more questionable than the right although it's possible both are fake. If I had to pick the more likely fake it would be the one on the left.

1996_R-plant-US_fake vs maybe OK-a.jpg

ETA - These R plant codes are found in some very close fakes. This may be the first time I'm 100 percent sure that the bag actually IS fake based on the discrepancies between the bag's details and the year code. The safest thing is to assume that they're fake until proven otherwise.

I was waiting for another reply but in the interim, I did a bit of digging through my own photo files.

What I found was that those that are fake had the following features as compared to the possibly authentic ones:
  • puffier creed stamping
  • more elongated (oval) o in No.
  • more elongated (taller) serial number characters and slightly more squished together
  • slightly shorter underscore in No on the fake
One compares the creed in question to a possibly fake. Others show the similarities in the "probably fakes."

And also squished cartouche at the top of the creed. Not enough space around the word Coach.

Yep, definitely what you'd have to call "scary close fakes".

(I added a few more things to my previous post since you posted, but you probably already know that.)

Comments: Hi, I hope I’m doing this properly. I wish I had gotten this authenticated before buying, but better late than never, I guess! I tried to do my due diligence, and I think this is a Bradley Bucket bag? Thanks for the time and help.
