Hello,

I found this bag at the Goodwill. I think that it was part of Coach's Soho collection but I am unsure of the name. According to the creed , I think that it was made on November, 2005. The plant is D and it states that it was made in China. Please authenticate this bag and give me the name of the bag if possible.

Thank you. Coach Soho Bag 1.jpg Coach small soho 2.jpg Coach Soho Creed 4.jpg Coach Soho 5.jpg Coach Soho 6.jpg Coach Soho 7.jpg

Hi,
Yes I did struggle with the creed picture. I got it from email as an impulse purchase. When I tried to copy the link, it displayed all my personal information. Just not a very technically minded person.
Here is another one now my DH is home to help.
Thank you for helping. X

Why would you want to compare the fonts? The fake "Saddle Bag" from the earlier post is fake, period. The fonts used in that one have no connection to reality. I assume this is the one you mean?

a- is genuine
b- isn't a Saddle Bag, it's a Crescent Bag, style 9235. I'm not sure if that's the original hangtag.
and
c- the Made in NYC creed and lack of a serial number indicates it was made some time in the late 1970s to early 1980s. Even if the creed fonts were identical, which they're not, all it would prove is that the fakes makers were either very careful or very lucky. It's not that hard to copy or reproduce a font that would have been used in at least a few Coach bags some time during that 25-year vintage and classic period.

(BTW, the creed stamp font used in the fake from the earlier post is noticeably rounder, compare the "o"s, the "c"s and the "g"s to the same letters in your friend's vintage Crescent Bag.)

Having an identical font to another bag doesn't prove anything. After all, there are a limited number of fonts that were used in classic and vintage Coaches. What's important is having exactly the font and creed and serial number details that a bag is supposed to have for the month, year and plant indicated in the serial number, or in this case, the years when a bag with those particular production details would have been made. Having the "correct" font proves nothing. Having the WRONG font proves everything.

Thank you for the detailed response. I was slightly alarmed by the similarity and I was afraid I had a fake bag. whew. thank you

The link for the listing shouldn't show your personal information. Even if you copied the wrong thing, a person would have to be able to log into your ebay account to see your personal information.
It looks fine.

It's genuine, and part of the Soho line, as are most genuine Coaches with that rounded horseshoe shaped buckle. The style was called a Soho Leather Small Flap and it was made in 2005. The style numbers for that year were unusual in that most of them were number AND letter combinations in a NLNN- format, like the 8A05 style number in this bag. That's also mentioned in the Salearea Guides.

The D plant code was used only for US-made bags until 2003 (actual plant location is still unknown), but by September 2003 the D code had been switched to China after the US plant that had used that code for almost 10 years was permanently closed. It was used for a China plant until 2005 when it disappears permanently unless a straggler from 2006 shows up. But that's unlikely, Coach changed the plant code format in mid-2006 from a single digit number or letter to a 2-number code.

Hyacinth,

Thank you so much for the detailed response. The D plant code threw me off as I always associate it with bags made in the US. I appreciate your knowledge. I love this style for everyday wear and have two more.

That's why I went into so much detail. The D plant code with a China creed and the letter and number combo for the style number are both unusual details that were only found for a short time and can be confusing because they were different from what was expected from Coach at the time. If you're ever concerned about a detail that seems to go against Coach's usual system, don't hesitate to ask. But always keep in mind, Coach makes their own "rules" and then breaks them almost immediately. As we like to remind everyone, "the only consistent thing about Coach is their inconsistency".

Welcome. There's another picture we need to see. Somewhere inside the bag, possibly buried into a seam in the pocket, you'll have to feel around for a small white tag with two rows of numbers and letters. It might be necessary to turn the pocket inside out to get a picture of it.
