Hello everyone, I'm new. I hope I'm doing this right. I got excited and nabbed a goodie from poshmark and need help authenticating it.

Item: Vintage Coach Prairie Satchel
Seller: pnwposher76
Link: https://poshmark.com/listing/Vintag...ith-adjustable-strap-5cf33cf7c953d888e8eb33ad
Comments: It has no hang tag. I'm wondering if it's possible to pick up a hang tag from a coach store?

Thank you!

It's a genuine vintage Prairie Bag (not Satchel) made in 1996.

The leather hangtags that might be available in Coach stores won't be the same style as the one that originally came with the bag, and probably not the same color either. Coach will often send a metal hangtag and ball chain if you call their Customer Service department, the phone number is available on their website, Coach.com. They wouldn't have any older leather styles or colors in stock either but the brass-color tag they would send would still be a nice addition to the bag and it would be a genuine Coach product. Too many of the leather "replacements" available on the internet would either be the wrong color or be counterfeit.
Just a comment (and one of the reasons why I refuse to authentic and promote Poshmark):

Hyacinth helped with the bag you asked about but like so many other sellers on Poshmark, Jennifer - @pnwposher76
either knowingly or not lists fakes, sometimes mixed with authentic items. And since neither the seller nor Poshmark will remove fakes, some poor sucker got ripped off when she bought this fake:

Thank you Hyacinth! :) You're right, a brass hangtag would still look very nice with this bag. I'll be giving them a call.

Hello! I recently purchased two vintage coach bags. One I was able to identify. This one I can't seem to identify. The creed is marked with "made in the united states". I'm not sure if the first mark is a zero or the letter O on the serial number.

Since Coach leather bags were designed to be washable, Coach never used cardboard to stiffen the leather. This style has a suede lining and you need to search the Rehab and Rescue thread in the main Coach forum under "Coach Clubhouse" for something like "gramercy wash" or just ask a question about how to wash and care for that particular leather and lining. Powder Blue is probably the correct color name although the color may be more of a pale aqua shade. Other colors were Wheat and Black.
Thank you.

It's a genuine Roll Bag, style 9887 and made in the early 1990s. The letter "O" would not have been used by Coach in serial numbers because of the possibility of confusing it with zero. Styles made before 1994 would always have all numbers and no letters. BTW, bags with all-number styles need to have the bag's measurements included in authentication and identification requests.

That's really unfortunate and disheartening. I really wanted that purse and I'm incredibly grateful for the help and information Hyacinth provided me by authenticating the purse and also helping me with my hang tag dilemma. It really sucks that poshmark doesn't remove fakes, I can understand you not wanting to promote them because of that. But I think you and Hyacinth have really helped this little purse loving community by authenticating and sharing your knowledge and I hope the platform won't deter you. Thank you, guys.

Please, please don't keep reposting the same request!

Try to keep in mind that we volunteer our time here and do it as time allows. We have real life obligations, home, family, jobs, vacations, etc. and our weekends are often occupied with "fun" family activities. Especially in the summer, some of us may take vacations, day trips, weekends off or just may not be online as much as other times of the year.

Also, if there are missing pictures or missing information in posts, your request may be skipped.

As per post 1, page 1, if items are listed online, we want to see the listing, the seller's ID, the pictures in the listing. If the pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to copy them into the post.

Your posts have shown pictures of at least 2 different bags. One of the bags has a creed with a serial number and the other bag(s) doesn't have a serial number on the creed.

Again, see post 1 on the first page of the thread for the posting format and info we need.

If there are 2 different bags (from 2 different sellers?) that you're interested in, please post the requests separately.

Geeze! apologies again. The measurements are matching the catalog description you posted, 11x7x3 and indeed has an adjustable strap. I really appreciate your help. I couldn't find ANY info when I googled the serial number. Just for fun I will try to attach the other bag and wallet I got as well. Thank you again!coach.jpg coach2.jpg coach3.jpg

^^^ That listing doesn't show a creed but if the creed shown in this post is for that bag, the bag looks fine:
https://forum.purseblog.com/threads...ost-for-format.889527/page-2675#post-33295576

You also posted pictures here (without a link to the listing or seller) of a different bag.

The bag in the posts above ^^^ show a creed without a serial number.

For that bag, we need to see an additional picture. Hidden inside the bag somewhere, possibly buried in the zippered pocket, there is a small white tag with 2 rows of writing on it. You may have to turn the pocket inside out to find it and photograph it.

Especially when asking about more than one bag, the format is more important because we need to differentiate between listings and sellers.

So, I’m that seller and found this forum when trying to figure out why my listing was removed. Just so you know, I posted the photo so quickly because i happened to be home in the next room with the bag, not because i have some elaborate Coach bag scam going on.

I don’t know enough about designer bags, obviously, because I bought this bag thinking it was real. I’ve never owned a designer bag before, and I’ve certainly never bought a fake knowingly. I bought it from a vintage seller on instagram who is now refusing to refund me. I don’t know why I’m posting here other than because I feel like **** because not only did I get ripped off, but there’s a forum where people are talking about my attempt to make a lousy $75 to put towards my savings like I’m some nefarious scam artist.

I’m sorry you purchased a fake bag and I hope you can get your money back. I don’t think you’re a scam artist. But unfortunately many many of us have unknowingly purchased fake Coach items and often times we see sellers that know they are selling fakes hence my skepticism, like the seller you purchased from on Instagram. Maybe they knew they were selling a fake? How terrible would that be if they knew they were scamming you! That’s all we are trying to avoid here.

If you are into vintage Coach this is a great place to be! The Coach authenticators help us to not get scammed and really know their stuff.
