Comments: I purchased this purse from my local City Thrift for a few dollars. Not sure what bag it is or if it’s a real Coach. The “serial number” gives me doubts. But the stitching is even and straight. Seems like real soft leather but I’m unsure. It’s missing the tag and dust bag. The store was closing and I couldn’t find anything on it with a fast search. I’m not hopeful...the creed looks all wrong now that I’ve really read it. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

If that's an authentic Coach then Coach has some EXPLAINING TO DO! That creed is pretty bad.

(But I am not an official authenticator so hang on til one of them sees it!)

Let this be a warning to you to at least READ the creed! "Straight stitching" doesn't prove a darned thing.

Most fakes aren't nearly that bad but a lot of Korean-made fakes are and this is probably one of them. Get your money back.

You don't have to be "official" to recognise the results of a third-rate translation program.

Search the Coach forums here for the words "Korean fake", you'll see more that are just as bad. This one is just newer than most of the others.

Thanks!! I’ll stick to buying my purses from real stores and leave the thrifting alone. Ah well. I’m not upset over it.

It still seems to be missing the keyfob, but right now I' can't be sure either way. I thought the plant code was M, but if it's actually A and the MONTH code is M, it still might be real. I found a different style with the serial number in the correct format and an "A" plant code, and the fonts look the same as the one you asked about. I'd like BeenBurned to take a look if she's available.

The questionable Metropolis Flap:

and a Carousel Bag 9942 with the same serial font and an outlet stamp even though the digits in the prefix are flipped:

My apologies if I screwed up. If the production codes had been in the correct order it probably wouldn't have happened.
I do agree that the stamp looks like a big screwup at the A plant.

Personally (my opinion about Poshmark aside), I wouldn't have purchased the bag anyway because the anomyalies would make it too hard (if not impossible) to convince someone of authenticity with certainty should you decide to sell it in the future.

Another thing I also find really strange (and unusual) is that this isn't something we've seen. I have a hard time believing that Coach found and corrected that error quickly enough that another bag with the same mistake hasn't shown up.

Thank you. I don't plan on selling it but it hasn't shipped yet. I also can't get any response from the seller so if she ignores me long enough and doesn't ship on time then I can cancel the order.

We've seen plenty of bags from the mid-90s with scrambled serial prefixes, but almost none with A plant codes, scrambled or not. Since the A plant seems to have just been used to meet unexpected demand or to make sample or pilot bags, I'm not surprised that no one apparently remembered what order the production codes were supposed to be in. With the hundreds of examples of all the other plant codes I've saved photos of from each of those years, there are only 2 or 3 examples of A plant code photos from each year from 1995 thru 1998 in my files.

Hello lovely authenticators... It's been a while (for me)! But I stopped by Savers over the weekend because 1) they were right next to the TJ Maxx I was browsing, and 2) it was national thrift store day so I wanted to take advantage of the $0.99 t-shirts. But in doing so I found this adorable bag and snapped it up - I was 95% confident in authenticity because I've seen this exact bag before here and in other vintage Coach threads, but definitely want to ask the experts for peace of mind :)

All the Coach bags (authentic and non-, and even the old signature ones that were beat) were marked between $20-$30, and this little gem was $4.99, perhaps because the creed stamp was not visible in the main compartment and the hangtag was tucked inside with the strap. It's in excellent condition, and I got 20% off for donating a couple of clothing bags from my trunk so it was only $3.99!

ANYWAY, I believe it is a Scooter bag #9893, but please let me know of any red flags. Thanks so much in advance!
