I agree with Whateve and BeenBurned. Some of the bags in that Tribeca line used some questionable stiffener materials in parts of their line. I had a Tribeca Flap #9092 from the same line that used some odd material to stiffen half of the flap. It wasn't cardboard or the bag wouldn't have been washable. Coach may sometimes make some odd design and material choices, but the creed photo I'm looking at tells me it's genuine. It looks like one of the bag's owners tried to remove that stiffening material for some reason and did a lousy job of it.

Wow, I’m even more shocked. Is there anyway a fake could nail the creed, or is there somewhere I can compare it with other purses of the same style? I am not questioning your expertise, but as a researcher I need whatever resources I can find to prove to my rigidly rational side that an authentic Coach’s construction can look more shoddy than my crappy old Payless rain-day tote. Like, I know you’re right, but I’m it’s not shutting my brain up if that makes sense? But for the zillionth time here, your help would be a bonus prize at this point & it’s been a pleasure.

I plan on doing just that. I was so shocked and ashamed that I went on a shopping binge that I blamed myself instead a new flavour of an old sleeping disorder and sellers who were willfully ignorant at best. In an amazing coincidence 2 separate people Said “I was given it by my late mother”.

I have one further favourite to ask, if you all have the time: can anyone verify this as fraudulent based on the listing alone? I found other proof that it was bogus when examining under the flap, similar to another listing here, but I’d like to have all the ammo I can.

I’ll call this #4:
Item: Vintage Coach Bag (No. A9C-9098)

Whether you have time to do this or not, I really appreciate all your help & will post in your Hall of Shame any of these guys who repost, chronically offend, etc.

Don't report that bag! It is authentic. Why don't you think so?

Note that you copied the serial prefix incorrectly; the year made is 1998, not 1999 as you typed. (It doesn't change that the bag IS authentic.)

My apologies for the typo! An authentic Coach would be finished with two layers of cheap cardboard and a sloppy application of glue??

You can always use a professional authentication service if you don't trust the 3 authenticators who posted.

Just make sure that the one you choose actually knows Coach and the differences in styles, fonts, plants, etc.

I’m awfully sorry for sounding Iike I didn’t trust you 3. I expressed myself poorly. I’m more graceless than a possum in rollerskates sometimes.
Cheers

Keep in mind, while the production of vintage Coach was very good, no one’s perfect! As Hy pointed out , some lines lent themselves to outcomes that were below the bar. In the mid 80’s , Coach was sold to corporate America and (IMO) by the end of the 90’s they were cranking out all sorts of lines to be competitive. So I am not surprised to see quality all over the map once the corporate game was on. Which meant moving production all over the place.
As for resources, my new friend, as a fellow Coach aficionado, who is grateful for the free service we get here, I suggest to start reading as much of this thread as you can! Their answers and photos and catalog pics posted here are the resources! Use the search feature to look up styles. I have pumped the brakes a bit on buying, but I continue to read this thread at least to continue learning. Welcome !

When someone gets a chance, can they look at this one for me? Thank you

Comments: The creed is really hard to read

I can't read the serial number at all except for the last 2 digits but I don't see any red flags. If you buy it, please post a clearer photo of the creed and serial. If the number still isn't readable, lightly brush a light-colored powder like a pale eyeshadow or highlighter over the creed and number and then very gently wipe off the excess so that some of the powder is still left in the indentations from the letters and numbers. Even talcum powder might work.
