I don't think it is cause for concern. It's just cosmetic. If it doesn't bother you, there's no problem.

I meant the gsp is safer for the seller because she doesn't have to fork over money to ship to you. All she has to pay for is getting the package to Pitney Bowes in Kentucky. Once it is delivered there, she is protected even if the package doesn't make it to the final destination, supposedly. I've shipped with GSP several times. Personally as a seller, I don't want to pay $40 or so out of my own pocket to ship out of the country. It is too much risk for me.

Thanks for the insight, whateve. I don’t sell so it’s good to know from a seller’s perspective.

However, as a seller why would you pay for shipping at all? On eBay/Etsy, I would pay the price of the bag + the shipping costs that was determined. From talking to a few Etsy sellers it seems they take the package to the post office or use some sort of online calculator to figure out what to charge. I assume that the GSP program works similarly?

I don’t know about other countries but parcels mailed with USPS are delivered by the Canada Post here in Canada. Canada Post also has basic insurance of $100 (you can purchase more if the product is more expensive), in case the parcel is lost. eBay’s shipping cost is slightly higher but for buyers like me, the biggest difference GSP adds is the import charge (since the government doesn’t collect it for small purchases so it’s really just an eBay surcharge), and it is usually around 20% in addition to the bag’s cost before shipping.

It’s good to finally know why a lot of eBay listings include the “import charge” though. Even though I am annoyed by it I think I’d probably want the protection too if I were a seller. However, I have noticed that the Etsy sellers who are also on eBay tend not to use the gsp.

And oops it looks like the listing for the bag ended... I should have paid closer attention to the end date..

I think it is probably authentic. It looks like it could be #4020 drawstring sac small from the lightweights collection. There are no pockets to attach a creed, and they didn't consider putting it in the base. I don't remember ever seeing one of these before and I can't find any mention of it on the forum.

Thanks for that...another rarity to add to my collection!

While searching eBay for a similar style, I came across this. Could I please get an authentication and ID on:

Sellers pay for shipping, whether or not it is posted in the listing. When you pay, that shipping money you paid goes to the seller. Whether you paid enough to cover the shipping, the seller can't go back to you to ask for more. I haven't sold on etsy in years so I can't remember, but ebay takes 10% of what you pay to the seller, including the shipping charge. Ebay has a shipping calculator you can use for domestic shipping in which it calculates the cost based on weight. I don't like to use it because depending on where it going, it is often cheaper to use a flat rate box. So I just set a flat rate shipping cost for my listings. When you buy an item with gsp, the amount the seller charges for shipping is added to the amount gsp charges, and you just see the total. You can't see how much the seller charged, or even if the seller offered free shipping. Buyers tend to underestimate how much shipping costs, and don't take into account that ebay and paypal take some of the money, so they often complain that the seller overcharges, or they will just skip the listing because of the shipping charge. So, I don't like to charge over a certain amount of shipping on my listings, even if it is going to cost me more. Since I charge a flat charge, sometimes it comes out cheaper, sometimes more expensive, because shipping costs depend on the location of the buyer. It is worse for sellers like me that live on one coast.

The more the seller pays to ship, the more risk she has if the buyer returns. She can't get that shipping cost back. If you sell to someone in another country and they claim it wasn't as described, that loss is much greater because the shipping costs so much. Ebay's money back guarantee means the buyer gets a complete refund, including shipping costs, and the seller has to pay shipping to have the item shipped back to her.

This one is authentic.

I really don't know which of these bags is 4020 like I posted earlier and which is 4021. I assume they aren't the same bag. Coach's description doesn't mention an interior pocket for either. I suspect the bone bag is the smaller of the two, and is probably 4021, making this one 4020. Are you thoroughly confused? I am.

I'm confused too.

4020 Drawstring Sac Small measures 7" x 8-1/2" x 7. It doesn't appear to have a seam dividing the outside pocket. It has a round bottom.

The seller of the bone bag says it measures and 9" wide and 8" tall.
The seller of the tan bag says it measures 9-1/2" wide and 8" tall.
Neither of them has a seam dividing the outside pocket.
The tan bag has an inside pocket, the bone bag doesn't.
They both have (more or less, in the case of the wonky bone bag) round bottoms.

Could they both be the 4020?

Thanks for sharing and I’m sorry if I came across the wrong way.. I certainly don’t ever expect a seller to be out on shipping something to me... I usually try to ask for a padded envelope instead of a box, if possible, and I would let the seller know I don’t mind waiting longer. But if the seller isn’t comfortable with that I also wouldn’t insist. My gripe is with ebay’s import charge, which seems to be a dishonest business practice to me.

From what you describe eBay takes quite a big cut from each sale. And isn’t it a bigger risk to the seller because of the money back guarantee? I’m genuinely curious because I think bags of lesser quality often sell for higher prices on Etsy! So I’m curious as to why there are still many more sellers that are only on eBay.

I stopped selling on etsy because you have to pay to list, and my sales dropped off to nothing. Before that, I was seling 3 or 4 things a month, then it went to zero for several months in a row. When my listings expired, I didn't want to pay to relist them. I think they changed something with the site where you have to promote your listings on social media in order to get views. I don't use social media and I didn't want to start. I'd love to leave ebay. I worry with every sale that a buyer is going to complain, but I just don't make enough sales on other sites to quit ebay.

They could be. The bone bag looks much narrower in the interior picture. I'd love to see both of these bags side by side to prove they were the same size. You can't always trust sellers' measurements. Why would one have a pocket and the other not if they were the same style? It could happen if they changed the style halfway through production. We haven't seen enough of these to be sure.

Well, isn't this interesting?!?

I'm including a picture from the listing showing the non-creed as well as the same image rotated.

Although the stamped serial number looks okay, I'm guessing the bag is fake. Opinions?

Good detective work, Whateve! It's the first one I've actually seen too. And for some reason I didn't have the catalog pic in my files either. Another knowledge gap filled!

Ditto what Hyacinth said.

It's a first for me too!
Going back about 2 years ago, when I was doing a lot of heavy browsing of listings, I remember seeing at least one, possibly two bags that were drawstrings with the reg# imprinted on the little tab. But I don’t recall any other details. If I ever see another listing, I’ll post it here!

*my first post, sorry if I’m doing things incorrectly. Please let me know if I am*

I picked up this bag at a thrift store. Approx 13 inches long and 10.5 inches tall. I searched online but I can’t seem to find anything and I see that there is much variation with serial numbers. Please educate me on this bag, I’m blown away by all the knowledge on this thread!
Thank you!

Welcome.

It's an authentic whipstitch convertible hobo from 2011.

It looks like it's missing the long crossbody strap:

I love that bag! It's from the Poppy Collection. It's hard to read but I believe the name is Poppy Leather Whipstitch Hobo. The description says it's made of naturally treated vachetta leather and Italian waxed calfskin. My notes say it originally retailed for $398.

Welcome to TPF.

The bag looks fine.

It's not necessary to repost after such a short time. Authenticators volunteer their time and expertise but have lives outside of TPF with family, jobs, obligations, etc. Sometimes it takes a while for someone who knows a style to see and respond to a post.

Also please refer to post 1, page 1 for the posting format and information we need.

The general recommendation is to bump your request after 12-24 hours if it was missed.

Thank you for the reply.....and sorry for the post error.
