Thanks for the "warm" wishes! I'm sure when anyone south of Minneapolis complains about the cold, most Canadians/Canadiens just roll their eyes and think how soft we Yanks are. Sure, we're a little spoiled compared with the residents of the Great White North but now that the Chicago Cubs have FINALLY won a World Series it's the only thing we have left to complain about. (Other than our current crop of politicians, of course, but that's another story. I don't suppose you'd like to work out a trade? Our President for your PM? We'd even throw in half of our Congress to sweeten the deal, as long as we get to choose which half you get).

(Crosses fingers) :graucho:
LOL no no you seemed to have had it really brutal with the cold. I was only once -50. brr. Canada is not perfect but the PM looks like the prince from the little mermaid. Congress vs Parliament not sure about that trade, they are probably the same lol. Thanks again. just need to ask you, you don't need to reply but keeping up appearances, are you fan of uk shows?

Yes, quite a few of them although we don't get to see many here. Long ago we'd get all sorts of goodies on the old A&E back when the letters actually MEANT Arts & Entertainment, and BBC America had some good shows until they decided to become Star Trek 24-7 (and I'm a Patrick Stewart fan). At least they still give us occasional batches of David Attenborough who I ADORE. But I still love KUA and Are You being Served, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python, To The Manor Born and a bunch of others, along with all the old classics we used to get on PBS like Poirot, Miss Marple and Sherlock Holmes. I'm still slowly working my way through Midsomer Murders, although a lot of the newer police and detective dramas are too bloody and dark for my taste. I'd definitely call myself an Anglophile although I loved SCTV and The Red Green Show too.

I'm embarrassed that I had to look him up on Wikipedia. What sticks in my mind are misogeny, his anti-environmental actions, and this - "Ford's campaign got the attention of Last Week Tonight's John Oliver, who closed an episode begging Torontonians to vote for Doug Ford for the world's amusement." We already have one misogenist climate-change denier who the media initially though would be an "amusing" candidate, and we saw how that worked out. I don't think trading one for another will solve much. Maybe a caribou herd instead? Or a year's supply of poutine? How about if we cancel the high tariffs between Canada and Wisconsin on cheese curds?

I have to speak with you on all that..omg Doug Ford brother was Rob. I am not making this up. google. Thanks again Hyacinth! you really seem to love the vintage Coach bags that are so dear to my heart. And you willingly offer your knowledge.

Ok, now i remember, the Wiki article mentioned it but I didn't make the connection. The brother Rob was the mayor with the drug problem, right? I didn't know that he'd died from cancer. That's sad, and it makes the parallels between Doug and The Prez even closer, he had a brother who was addicted to alcohol and died young. Supposedly that's why he doesn't drink or smoke. Too bad his government doesn't seem to be doing anything about the opioid epidemic. One speech, but almost no release of federal funds for treatment except for an advertising campaign. Nancy Reagan tried the same thing and it had just about the same effect - zero.

Sorry, didn't mean to get political, there's enough of that already. Handbags are a much more pleasant subject.

NP for being political. Rob was the mayor with the drug problem and looked kind of like Chris Farley from SNL. there's memes about that, funny at the time but sad now since knowing Rob Ford died. Tariff on cheese curds lmao...wait...is it a real tariff? Again, I appreciate your time here. Keep warm. : )

OMG Hyacinth wrote me!! Thanks Hyacinth!!! Thank you very much for your time. I only had one Coach for the longest time and then I inherited really nice ones (NYC ones, watermelon one etc), now when I see one (I like the vintage thick leather ones) at a thrift store, I get crazy. If I get the chance to get another, I'll be sure to give the details of when and where purchased. Just saw a post that you are in cold weather, hope you're keeping warm. (I'm from Canada so I kinda know cold LOL but sounded like super brutal where you are)
Ah, yes, you made me remember that a little chit chat made me feel very welcome early on!!

Omg, thanks for reminding me how my dad, brother and I would laugh so hard at SCTV lol lol. And we were watching it on the less popular PBS channel, maybe from Newark , or Camden NJ and because my parents were one of the last 5 residences in the NJ to get cable, we were watching over air, with sketchy reception. Yes, I'm that old. Good times!!
And RG, the Man Creed: I'm a man, I can change, if I have to, I guess . . . When I found a few episodes of that, at one point, watching with an ex-sig other, he always side eyed me for laughing hysterically

Hoping you ladies are feeling rested and recovered from your week!! I wanted to crack open a box of wine just reading those posts!

Random thought, When did please and thank you and at your convenience go out of style??

The PBS station in northern Indiana used to show Red Green but the station closed down a year or so ago. Sometimes when we go up to Wisconsin for a weekend we'll catch it on PBS Green Bay or Milwaukee but we haven't done that a lot lately either.

We still have DVD sets of Red Green and SCTV, it might be time for a re-watch. Guy Caballero, Bobby Bittman, Count Floyd, Edith Prickley, Lola Heatherton, and of course, Bob and Doug. Good times indeed! Pass me another beer, eh?
