1 and 3 are authentic. 3 looks like that might be melted candy in the bottom. It will probably come out in a warm bath but looks gross. 2 is fake.

Thanks so much for your quick reply! Bummer about the second one being fake.

On the third (Willis) - could you estimate the age? I wasn’t sure if the creed was C5O as the seller noted, or 050. And thanks for pointing out the melted candy - eww! If I got that’s one, I would be hopeful I could get it out with Dawn.

Thanks again!

I recently purchased this mini satchel from poshmark, and I have some worries about it’s authenticity and wuld greatly appreciate an expert opinion before I decide not to send it back! Thank you!!

Item: Coach Mini Kelsey Satchel (in pebbled black)
Seller: fashion_holic
Link: https://bnc.lt/focc/aPewsTWz1S
Serial No: J1848-F28994

Some things I noticed:
-the zipper doesn’t have any leather on it and I’ve seen other Mini Kelseys whose zippers do
-other Mini Kelseys have a white serial number tag and this one does not

Please explain. I have many examples of the G plant used in purses from 1994 to 1998.

WHOOPS! My mistake, I read my notes too fast. "G" was mostly a floater and the genuine ones usually had "G"s that were a different size from the rest of the serial digits and slightly apaprt from the rest of the serial prefix when used in handbags. Luggage and travel items used a different font. Mid-1990s HANDBAGS with G plant codes and serial prefixes that are all the same font and spacing are the ones that could be problematic.

Sorry for any confusion. I blame lack of coffee and a Doctor Who marathon. My favorite pairing too, Ten and Donna Noble.

And of course, the Adipose... adipose-waving-b.gif

Here's an example of a genuine G plant creed of the type that could be problematic.

Could I get a little help authenticating this bag?

The serial number looks like the wrong font but I wanted confirmation.

You're correct, the font is wrong, the underscore under "No" is too long, and a genuine J4D- serial prefix would have a creed with the old "scars, scratches, veins and wrinkles" statement and a separate "made in the United States" at the bottom.

Yep That particular one is not a handbag creed though, it's a Travelweave Duffle or Cabin Bag and should be ok. Here are the other photos from the same listing that creed photo came from, note the fabric lining. If the creed was from a handbag it WOULD be a problem. 1997_G-plant-GENUINE_L7G-0564 Travelweave duffle or cabin Bag-a.jpg :

Hello! I am so happy to have found TPF!!! I am a fan of several bags but especially am fond of Coach (esp vintage) and so relieved to know that there are many like minded souls out there! I found this at a thrift store and I am not sure if it is authentic. I never participated in a blog before so please let me know if I am doing this correctly and have the correct format. Thank you!

Item: Coach saddlery bag
Dimensions: W-9" (about) H-8" Depth-3.5" Drop 13.5" to 20.5" (about)
Comments: black leather, made in New York City per the description on creed, number 109-5630. Leather seems too stiff, especially on the interior suede side as compared to my Fletcher and another (I think Patricia bag) as well as my old banged up Stewardess.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance!

Welcome to tPF! If you ever need an authentication of a Coach that's currently listed on an auction or selling site, please be sure to give the details and use the format described in Post number One of this thread.

Leather softens with use, and larger bags usually soften faster than smaller ones.

It's a genuine Saddlery Bag style 9535 from around 1986-1987.

It's 1995. It is actually C5C. Once I accidentally bought a bag with gum stuck inside, then I made a bigger mistake of dunking it in warm water. It was all I could do to not throw up while I worked on it.

To add to what Hyacinth said, some bags are supposed to be stiffer so they used a stiffer leather. Your Fletcher was made with lightweight leather and is supposed to be especially floppy. Bags from the 70s and 80s tend to have stiffer leather than 90s and early 2000s all leather bags.
