Thank you for your time and for the info on the blue Madison, I'll ask the seller to locate the tag and provide pics. I feel like I'm really learning something in this thread, I'm already noticing the fakes from the potential real bags

Above are the pics of the Brown Madison Legacy Creed. They are so hard to read, is it suspicious that Coach would print the creed on the textured leather like that? Bag is gorgeous though, the auction ends soon and I'd love to get it authenticated so I can bid!

Ok I’ve got some better pictures of the creed and pictures of the tags!

Hello authenticators - another one that I hope you will look at.

Item: Vintage tan/brown leather Coach bag, briefcase, or purse

Comments: What is the year and style name for this bag? late 80s/early 90s? Also, on the ID question, I am assuming this is willis (etc) era, true? Were there other shoulder-carry styles (different sizes or styling details) which also used the dowel top at that time?

Again, GMTA. I reported also.

(And that was the 3rd time loveleathers relisted that fake Willis!)

Do you think the seller was ALREADY on Selling Restrictions? The most recent Coaches in her Completed listings including the one ABMAB asked about in Post 31220 don't have "Coach" in the listing title, only farther down in the description.

There are three or four just titled:
vintage :genuine brown all leather: purse
The fake Willis was
vintage :genuine teal all leather: purse
A few older listings DO use Coach in the title so it must have been a recent restriction if that's what it was.

As long as she keeps listing brown leather bags she never even has to change the title. And she could give lessons to other shady sellers who want to know how to deliberately blur their listing photos.

It's a genuine Barclay Tote, style 9896 and from around 1991-1993. It was introduced several years before the Willis. And several other bags from that period used dowels at the top of the bag.

The Barclay was brought back briefly in 1997 but with a different style number 9096 and with a standard Coach turnlock instead of the springlock used on the original version.

Ah ha! OK, I have wondered, in the back of my mind, what the difference is between the springlock and turnlock ones. Thank you for the dowel top history knowledge!

Good afternoon authenticators, please let me know what you think of this bag.

Comments: I noticed the stitching on the bottom is a little skewed. Is something like this common? Thank you for your time.

It's genuine. I don't see any obvious problems with the stitching. Coaches, especially earlier ones, weren't perfect, don't expect them to be. I mention that in the Salearea Guides.

9907 Logan
9927 Willis
9930 Murphy
9896 Barclay Tote

9940 Dowel Field Bag

ETA: added a picture of the 9096 Barclay Tote with the turnlock closure

I'm not sure whether loveleathers was circumventing restrictions but I don't believe so. I'm pretty sure that if she was restricted, she wouldn't have been able to use "Coach" as the brand in the item specifics.

My guess is that her omission of the brand in the title was just her own way to stay under the radar.

The third listing and sale of the fake Willis was removed as was the listing of the other fake brown bag.

Great list and photos - thanks!

And now for the MYSTERY BAG CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK!

This week we have a two-fer:

There's also an unknown style 9987 that has been referred to as a Sherbourne but I haven't been able to confirm that. Same time period, almost the same measurements, and maybe so close to the Willis that Coach decided to drop it from the lineup early. If anyone has any solid details, tags, receipts, photos, etc we'd love to see them.

There's also a combination of Willis and Court Bag (same size) with no dowel, style number 9989 that seems to have met an early end too, if anyone has any info on it. It may even have been a pilot bag or sample.
