Item: Coach Bucket Bag
Listing number: 6642624731
Link: https://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/clo/d/coach-leather-bucket-bag/6642624731.html
Comments: The letters JGH are stamped under the creed, do you know what that means? I suppose that it could be a monogram but it is a strange place for it!

It looks like a home-made monogram, and not a very attractive one. I definitely think it's better INSIDE the bag - would you want that on the outside of your Coach? And yes, it's genuine

It looks fine but I agree it's a strange place for a monogram!

Thanks! It is ugly, I was wondering if it was some sort of code for "defective bag" - I appreciate the information!

Thank you! Luckily it was only $20. I don't feel too bad. And I'll know better next time :)
Yes, it's fake. If the people running the estate sale are local, you should try and get your money back. Selling counterfeits under ANY circumstances is against US federal law and that includes estate sales. If you're not very familiar with Coach details and serial numbers I recommend that you only buy them used if they can be authenticated here first before buying or bidding.

Thye leather trim above the turnlock is wrong, the wording of the creed stamp is COMPLETELY wrong for the indicated year code for 1997, the fonts used in the serial number are wrong for the indicated plant code, and the supposed style number 8188 isn't even close to matching the correct style number of the bag which should be 9927. I don't even think style 8188 is a handbag of any kind, the only Coach item with that number is a pair of sunglasses. We could probably find even more problems but the ones I already listed are absolute proof that it's fake.

Purchased from an estate sale. Is this a fake?

Thanks, but I'll leave that to Daria - if she ever gets a chance to re-do the list. That blasted thing is MASSIVE.

LOL! And see the further edits to my post above.

Ah, yes. "A Walk Down Memory Lane", as Lawrence Welk would probably say. Or would have said if he'd made it to age 115. :graucho:

Thank you, I knew the zippers are right and they zip smoothly. The stitching looked very even and straight and the pattern was right.

Believe it or not, a lot of those characteristics can also be found on what are called Triple-A Fakes. There's a lot more than just stitching and zippers (regardless of the still-rampant BS about YKK zippers and authenticity) that needs to be looked at. A counterfeits factory where they're willing to spend a bit more money on materials and experienced seamstresses or leather workers can turn out some pretty accurate fakes.
