  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

Yes, I was responding to the last statement. I noticed the oval metal piece is much smaller. So are all the ones that have the regular size turnlock are fake? Or did they come in both size turnlocks?
This one doesn't have the discrepancies we are talking about. It matches those that we know are authentic.

I believe the bag you're asking about to be authentic.

Thanks again for your expertise! It's so hard to be sure when it seems like there are different fonts for the same bag style #! I guess this reiterates Hyacinth's Sellarea guide point that there are no consistent rules for Coach!

Can anyone comment on purchasing from shopgoodwill (i.e. good or bad experience)?

I've bought several things from them. The shipping costs are high in my opinion, so I usually try to find other things from the same Goodwill to bundle. I made sure all my purchases were authentic before I bid. I was happy with everything. Sometimes their pictures don't show every thing. I imagine you might have some difficulty in getting your shipping costs back if you had to return.

Hi everyone,

I've been in the hunt for a Coach penny from the 2012 legacy collection.

Is anyone able to authenticate?

If it is proven fake, how does that work with shopgoodwill.com ?

Authenticators - what is your opinion of goodwill vs. ebay, poshmark, mercari, etbth, etc? I can't find much on their website about what happens if an item is believed to be counterfeit, it just says to contact the seller prior to purchasing...

BeenBurned may want to add something too.

I can't comment about Goodwill. My choice would always be Ebay or Bonanza. Poshmark has a TERRIBLE record when it comes to fakes, both in removing them when reported and when a buyer finds out their purchase is counterfeit and tries to get their money back. The forums here have a lot of comments and complaints about PM. We can't recommend them. Period.

Sorry. I can't help re Goodwill as I've never bought from any of their online listings. And as I've never done business, I don't know nor have I investigated their return policy.

I don't recommend Poshmark, wouldn't buy or sell there and I won't authenticate their listings (unless it's to confirm a fake) because I don't want to promote them. (Sorry if there are some TPF'ers who are good, honest sellers on PM. The site itself, its admin and its dishonest sellers have ruined it for everyone as far as I'm concerned.)

Having seen the listing prior to its removal, I agree that the listing from flametree0512 was fake however IIRC, we determined (sometime in the past) that some of the turnlocks on those coin/key cases did have indentations but at the time weren't conclusively proven as fake.

Here's the post (mine followed by Hyacinth's):
https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/authenticate-this-coach.889527/page-1831#post-32074537

And the listing I'd questioned at the time:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Mini-Periwinkle-City-Coin-Purse-Leather-Turnlock-Key-Chain-Vintage-Bag-/263515086062?rmvSB=true&nma=true&si=OMQybDn4jO7V5iroLlSAqpadD9E%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Any new opinions? (I notice that the chain links on the questioned items appear different from known authentic ones.)

I've never figured out some of those discrepancies in the mini coin purses, even after comparing the 6 or 8 I still own (all of which were bought on Ebay so there's no way to be 100 percent sure about those either). That's why the word "questionable" was invented. The most worrysome thing is the indented turnlock but I'm still going to stick to scratching my head and muttering "questionable" until and unless we find a NWT example in its original box with that exact chain and turnlock.

But I'll go along with Whateve's assessment on the one being questioned.

Actually, a few hours ago, I asked that seller for a picture of the underside of the flap. I haven't heard back yet.
I did hear back from the seller of the item @houseof999 posted.

So far, there's still NO example of indents on the back of turnlocks of a known authentic one.

This is from the seller with the NWT and NIB AUTHENTIC item:
COACH VINTAGE RARE BROWN LEATHER Mini Daypack:Backpack:Coin Key Fob 7253 NIB 2.jpg COACH VINTAGE RARE BROWN LEATHER Mini Daypack:Backpack:Coin Key Fob 7253 NIB 3.jpg COACH VINTAGE RARE BROWN LEATHER Mini Daypack:Backpack:Coin Key Fob 7253 NIB back turnlock 1.jpg

And then to add more confusion to the mix, check out this listing and the attached picture of the back of the flap. NO indents but not like the known authentic above either.

Yes I saw the red one too. That's why I asked if they were made with both size turn locks. I, however, don't like the look of the regular sized turn lock on it. It looks way it of proportion. I have a red City coin purse with the smaller turn lock on it.

The red one has serious problems compared to most production versions although it seems to match the catalog photo from Holiday 1997, post 28890, which is strange. Compared to one that I own in Lavender that I'm very comfortable with - the back of the drawstring is just natural suede-type leather and the string is just a flat piece of leather. It should be rolled and sewn to make a rounded string of all smooth leather. Did the very early ones have flat unsewn drawstrings like the red one in the catalog photo? The hangtag stamp is seriously off-center, the red thread is a bad color match, the hardware looks like it's several different shades of brass, the chain for the ring is too thick and heavy and the links have gaps, there's no multiple winding on the two links at each end of the chain, and the leather binding all around the edges of the case looks thick and clunky. The turnlock DOES look too big.

So is it an early case of the design changing between the catalog photo-taking and full production?

I have a lot of the same thoughts. The drawstring being just a piece of leather rather than being rolled and sewn is especially troubling to me. I also think the shape is wrong. The front should be fatter so that you can't see the back piping when you look at it from the front.

I've only owned one of these and it had the rolled drawstring, the correct turnlock, and the chain with the double links at the ends.

Yep, if it wasn't for that Holiday 1997 catalog pic, we'd have to say that it's fake. I just went through my catalogs on cd and can't find another picture of one, unfortunately. The Lavender one I have sounds exactly like yours, my guess from the color is that it's from Spring 1998 which is when the silver hardware and the Lavender color were both introduced for the full-size Daypack. Mine also has silver hardware.
