Well, I did it again. I put in a last second bid and won - even though I keep promising myself not to buy any more bags - but it was really special (at least I hope so!)

Item: Copley (or Kelly?) bag, #4414, Made in Italy in 1996, with matching wallet
Listing number: 44161390
Seller: Shopgoodwill.com
Link: https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/44161390

Comments: I haven't paid for it yet, please take a look and give an opinion about authenticity, thank you.

If it is authentic, and if you know anything about the bag - like the name of the yellow color or the style number for the wallet - the information would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Gee, something just occurred to me, I hope that they really did make this bag in light yellow? I have never seen any of the Made in Italy bags in yellow, I really hope that it isn't just discoloration from nicotine!
It's authentic. I think the wallet is 4473 Madison french purse. The color could be butter. There was a citron but that seems much darker.

Thank you! And I love the name "butter" for a bag color - it sounds so rich and creamy! Is the bag called Copley or Kelly or just Madison? I've seen several names listed for style number 4414. Thanks again!

It's a Copley bag from the Madison collection. Sorry, I thought you knew.

I found this catalog page showing Copley, Biltmore, and Gracie and the Copley is a larger sized-bag, I'm really getting excited now!

And wow! The butter and beechnut combo is gorgeous. I had no idea that they did 2-tone versions of the Made In Italy Madison bags. I would love to see the butter/black combo and some of the other options.

The 2-tone Copley was $376 and that was a lot of money back then (it's still a lot of money!)

It's a Copley. I think Hermes trademarked the name "Kelly Bag" decades ago and has maintained and renewed that trademark ever since. No other maker can legally use the name "Kelly Bag" along with "Birkin Bag" or "Lindy Bag".

"The Complainant also owns numerous trademark registrations for the mark KELLY around the world. For example: International trademark registration No. 1042816 – KELLY, with the filing date of April 15, 2010, designated among others for China; French trademark registration No. 093686880 – KELLY, with the filing date of October 27, 2009; and United States trademark registration No. 85018706 – KELLY, with the filing date of April 20, 2010."

Whateve is probably right about the color of the Madison items being Butter, that's listed as one of the available colors in the Spring 1996 catalog. Citron may have been discontinued in late 1995. Here's the Spring 1996 page:

Doesn't Gucci also have a Kelly bag? I thought it was named for Grace Kelly.

I'd love to see a fight between the big boys!

Apparently they both did, but Hermes was the one that stuck, although according to some, they didn't OFFICIALLY rename it until 1977. I'm not sure if that was when it was first officially trademarked, or if it was the later 2009-2010 dates listed in the other post. Apparently Gucci never thought to trademark the name. Or else the Gucci version wasn't big enough to cover Her Serene Highness's baby bump so she preferred to use the Hermes.

Thanks so much for the catalog and all the information, I never knew that there was so much conflict about names - and I never put it together that Grace Kelly was the inspiration for the Hermes Kelly bag.

I have a Coach Lindy Bag, the Retro Lindy 9003 from 1991 - and it's yellow, too! We were discussing the Lindy bags earlier today:

Thanks again!
