For certain plants, rounded 9s are fine. The trick is knowing which ones.

EXACTLY!

What a lot of people don't realize unless they read and pay attention to the posts in this forum is that a single detail like a rounded 9 can indicate a fake in a bag from one year and plant but not another. The same for the longer underline in the "No" in the serial number, whether or not a word in the creed is split between two rows of text and hyphenated, and a hundred other details that are red flags in some bags and not in others. That's why a large photo library is so important, and why someone can't just sit down with a few "authenticity guides" and call themselves an authenticator!

It's also why we always remind members to always ask here before reporting what they think is a fake just because it has a detail that's been pointed out on fakes before, the exceptions being things like the screamingly obvious Made In Korea bags and "always-fake" serial numbers like NT-4903. Even a style of strap clip that up until now has never been found on anything except fakes or the the rare aftermarket replacement strap is showing up on some recent genuine Coach styles. You'd almost think that Coach was trying to make things easier for the counterfeiters!

Things change, "Rules" for Coaches are almost non-existant except for less than 5 or 6 that still apply, and we always have to remember that Coach does make mistakes and does do stupid things, like the elimination of stamped serial numbers in creeds (and bringing those numbers back after 2 1/2 years is causing another round of problems and confusion.)

Always ask, and always compare apples and apples.

Another zipper question.
Do old New York made basic bags (serial number glued) always have Talon zippers?
I bought a black one el cheapo with a zipper head that's not marked except with a "4" on the back.
It also has slightly thicker and stiffer leather than another serial glued basic bag I have (which does have Talon zipper). Also its dog leash hooks are a bit larger but still have the anchor marks.
Everything else seems OK except it's sticky and over shiny (easily washes off thankfully).
Any opinions on the zipper?
Thanks for any knowledge.

This bag is in my hands at my goodwill. I've never seen anything like it, and there's no style number. What do you guys think?

I would normally pass I right over but I wanted to double check bc I rarely find even fake coach in my GW!

I think it's authentic. It's a Sheridan Shelby #4213. These usually have serial numbers but I still think it is okay.

Zipper brand doesn't matter. I've had NYC bags with different brands of zippers. They didn't always use Talon. I've seen different zipper pull ring sizes too. I've never compared dog leash clips but I can imagine those could vary as well.

Thanks! I found this auction on eBay (not mine obviously) that also didn't have an SN and looks the same. Maybe it was a factory outlet thing? http://m.ebay.com/itm/252848654895?_mwBanner=1

I picked it up! The closure is so different. Thanks for your help.

Perfect! I did a quick search and didn't find any. They weren't made for outlet as far as I know. I think there was a short period of time they didn't have serial numbers, like the Dakotas.

Last one for today! I took a chance on this mis-listed Stewardess even though the creed photo was terrible. It was listed as a Patricia's legacy. The seller has 30 day returns so I chanced it. What's the verdict??
