I know the answer to this question but want to post, both for confirmation and evidence of the issues as well as for the interest of others who could have been fooled.

Seller always-fun
Coach Wave tote style 1441
Bonanza listing

ETA: Seller is also selling the same bag on ebay:
seller always-fun
http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Wave-...060?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51cc4e4ef4

The original "wave" bags (styles 1441, 1439 and a few others) were exceptions to the signature "rule" in that they had a signature patchwork pattern on the outside yet there's signature lining.

Evidently whoever made always fun 's bag must have read the "always - never" rules and didn't realize there were exceptions!

This is a scary close fake with an identical serial number to some of the authentic versions and almost correct pattern placement.

ETA Again: Seller was discussed several months ago with a different fake:

Thanks! And another question which I don't know where to post, but does anyone know why I'm not getting notifications of replies to my posts anymore? It used to show up under Forums at the top and I'd get an email. But not for the last couple of days and I don't see anywhere to change that.
They're working on it. I think they have removed notifications except for private messages for the time being while they are fixing it. You can report problems here and also see if it has already been reported and responded to: http://forum.purseblog.com/feedback-dropbox/troubleshoot-tpf-problems-718850-100.html

And since we're discussing listings from always-fun, I'm curious about this sold item, especially since the serial number has been found on fakes.

Is this authentic or did the buyer pay $139 for a fake?

This post references a fake L4C-5130.

It is authentic. L4C-5130 is a valid creed number. The format and font is correct for that plant and time period. And that bag was made in that color in 1994. I believe that post referenced a bag that wasn't a station bag.

Wow, that is so close! Ebay removed it but it is still on Bonanza.

Thanks. When a seller has a fake, I always look at other listings.

Bonz is good about removing fakes when they're reported.

If you mean the two pictures in my post (the second one from the black bag is the one that thecollector629 asked about originally) I think both the pics I posted are the exact same stamping. The lighting on the black one distorts the numbers but when you compare the two the shapes and curves of the numbers are the same. Even the depth of some of the letters in the creed are identical, like the e in "cowhide" and the last two letters in "characteristic". The same fake stamp was used in both. So far every fake with that number seems to have used the same stamp....

There are valid -4896 style numbers but ONLY in a leather Swing Wallet. They wouldn't have had an A8M- prefix because that style had been discontinued by 1998, the last catalog it seems to have been in was Holiday 1996. My Fakes List here at tPF says "A8M-4896 - style number belongs ONLY to an all-leather 7x4 club- or disco-style Swing Wallet on a thin 50-inch strap first made in 1995"

Any -4896 items with Costa Rica creeds should be Swing Wallets and genuine and would have been made in 1995 thru maybe early 1997. A8M- creeds by themselves are no problem and like you said, in January 1998 that plant code was only used for Costa Rica.

CORRECTION - A8M- codes apparently were used for BOTH the US and Costa Rica, I've found both in apparently genuine bags. The M plant code was a Floater and was used often when a temporary stamp was needed. The font used in the stamp is more important than the plant code and date.

Hi ! I was Wondering if its possible that a bag with the serial prefix J8P bag could have been made in the USA..I thought that the P plant was in Costa Rica...when I re-locate the listing I'll put it up here for you to check out..thanks!!
