For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock

  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

They show the creed because they have no clue that the bag is fake. Many sellers don't take the time to get their bags authenticated. They have just enough knowledge to know a creed picture is important but not enough to know what makes it fake, even when it is pretty obvious like this one. I'm continually surprised at how few people actually read creeds. They see there is one and think that automatically makes the bag authentic.

ETA: Your question made me look at the seller's other items. The seller beadalooo also has this fake:

Thx for the explanation. Her photos are horrible -- all bags look the same with her blurry shots and major glares on them. I see what you mean about her thinking that any old creed on the bag deems it authentic. It's like she's just making up all the stats and sprinkling the Coach name around at random. Maybe even making up the style names.

Her feedback is great -- I can't believe that those poor victims are thanking her for selling them a fake -- although it looks like some are actually genuine Coach products. Are you guys (all authenticators) volunteers, if I may ask? If that's confidential, I understand. You seem to enjoy authenticating.

Update: Nevermind, I found the article on tPF that explains the process and that you guys are volunteers -- very nice of you!

Just curious -- Why do these con artists bother to display the creed on a fake bag. If the potential buyer is clueless about the authenticity, the creed won't impress them anyway -- and if the buyer IS a specialist as you are, they'll be busted immediately....are they just hoping to dupe as many customers as they can? It seems like these crooks are multiplying daily, lol.

Some of them aren't con artists, they're just too uneducated about Coach or too darn lazy to get their bags authenticated or to even learn a few basic facts. And the REAL con artists don't show any or enough of the creed for a solid authentication. As for multiplying daily - yep. Why not? Ebay doesn't care, and sites like Poshmark, Mercari, Listia, Facebook and others don't either. Dontcha know - according to the mouthpieces of our government-in-waiting, there are no such things as "facts" any more, so as long as someone FEELS a bag is genuine, it is.

Encyclopedias, Walter Cronkite and the New York Times used to be the voices of authority when I was growing up. Now it's Twitter. And people wonder why some of us have such total contempt for so-called Social Media.

Sorry, getting off my soapbox now. For the moment.

And it doesn't help that dozens if not hundreds of so-called "authenticity guides" tell them that, along with all the other BS they usually contain.

I'm quite positive this is fake, but please confirm. Thank you!

Seller: beadalooo

Definitely fake. No padded area above the turnlock, wrong inside zipper and zipper pull, and the number is on the Daria48 Fakes List at Ebay as well as my list here at tPF. And "scrtches" isn't in my dictionary OR Coach's.

In answer to your question, @K.E.W. , I'd like to comment.

Many sellers do know exactly what they're peddling and purposely avoid showing the important details that help educated buyers and authenticators assess the bags. But other sellers, beadalooo among them, IMO, think they know enough about the brand to do their own authenticating. in fact beadalooo sells enough Coach that she should learn to authenticate or learn where to go for help because she's listed and had fakes reported and removed at least 3 prior times in the past!

ETA: GMTA! Hyacinth beat me!

LOL! I was just going to post that J8H fake! More GMTA.

Hey there! Am new to this forum and looking to get a recently purchased bag authenticated.

Listing number: 162323120956
Seller: avwschmidt
Link: http://ebay.to/2hlycTi
Comments: The bag seems to be of good quality leather. I've attached photos, the creed is a little faded and hard to photograph. Underneath the type it says "made in the united states". If it's a legitimate bag, I'd love more info on when it was made. The serial number reads 0712-222. If you need more photos let me know. 8A38BE72-BE09-491F-9287-5199F72D8F5A.JPG 2528D8BD-58FC-482F-8346-4E58B133A58E.JPG DCC25E80-4947-49C8-B818-49B46332868E.JPG F641CACD-88B2-4058-872A-8A677957D7EA.JPG IMG_6492.JPG Thanks!

If the item is posted for sale online and you aren't the seller, please post a link to the listing and the seller's name. The first post of this thread says what we need. The bag is an authentic Madison Chapin. The seller is bobvron and this is the listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Vintag...721777?hash=item282738bd71:g:eWAAAOSwYIxYBqdI

Hi, and welcome to the purse forum. There is no need to post your own photos if we can view what we need in the online listing. It is an authentic station bag, style number 5130, made in early 90s. It is not a Willis as the seller suggests. Someone replaced the brass turnlock on the front. It isn't the standard shape that Coach used for this style.

Would you please check this shoulder pouch? Thank you!

Item: Shoulder pouch
Seller: Savers (in my possession)
Dimensions: about 8.75" x 9.75 x 3.75
Comments: had to use glare to show creed details

ETA: Oh no. Is that 'Marxings'??? How did I miss that??

Happy holidays ladies! Could you please kindly authenticate this COACH bag?

Item: Vintage COACH Stewardess 9525, made in NYC
Item Number: 262750623407
Seller: Andromeda_Collections
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/262750623407
Comment: I recently sold this bag, but the buyer is questioning the authenticity of this bag (because of the crooked registration numbers on the creed). If you could please kindly authenticate this bag, that would be greatly appreciated. I'll direct the buyer to the PurseForum page once the authentication is completed. Thank you in advance for your expertise! Best wishes for the new year! :)
