Hi, BB !!!! Getting tired of your "life of leisure" yet? We're keeping your chair warm and just installed a Keurig behind your desk with a selection of 50 different coffees and teas, so whenever you're ready just let us know and we'll fire that puppy up and plug in your foot massager.

LOL! Thanks for the offer. I'm not sure what or when........ but yeah, I'll take you up on that coffee. In fact, I may request something even stronger!

There are just times that I have to chime in because I take issue with false accusations and if I know the answer, it's sometimes easier than PMs.

Please authenticate:

Item: Coach RED Vintage Leather Bleeker Bucket Tote 9305 Made in USA
Listing #: 162243488324 on eBay
Seller: minimare409
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-RED-V...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Comments: This was a birthday gift from my mother-in-law and just brought to me over Thanksgiving. While the picture in the listing does not show it, the creed stamp is askew on the pocket (in case that makes any difference at all).

Please excuse any posting errors on my part; it is my first time posting to a forum.

Many thanks!

I'm afraid we have some bad news for you and your MIL.

There are several problems. The Bleeker styles were faked a lot and many of them were pretty close. It's the small details that give the fakes away.
1- the inside pocket zipper is too short. There should never be as much fabric past the ends of the zipper as this one is showing. Coach zippers are always made to fit the openings they're designed for.
2- the stamp on the "male" part of the magnetic snap on the tab that holds the top closed is wrong. Coach only buys their snaps from one company and although that company uses at least 3 brand names, "Magnet" is not one of them. There's no valid patent number on the snap either.
3- the shape of the stitching at the top of the bag where the handles are attached isn't quite right, but you have to look at a genuine one to see and compare the difference, which is most obvious on the bottom of the U shape formed by the stitches. I'm including a photo of the genuine version below. The shape of the stitching on yours is too rounded.
4- while it doesn't prove anything about the bag's authenticity, that multicolor metal charm wasn't made by Coach.
5- last but not least, the font used in the serial number doesn't match the known genuine font used by Coach in that plant (the "B" in the serial number) in 1999 which is the year code in the red counterfeit. I'm posting photos of a genuine bag from that year above yours so you can compare the differences. Coach serial number fonts are distinctive for each plant and we can use them to authenticate and date a genuine Coach or identify a fake one. The creed stamp by itself is frighteningly accurate and was probably copied and reproduced by a computer program, but the serial number font along with the other problems I mentioned tell the real story.

Thank you, Hyacinth. The black one also looks a bit off to me. The sides are too roundish, the surface too glossy for an older hangtag, and in general it looks quite different from the tan ones.

Some of the differences would be due to the black one being from a newer style IF it was genuine. The tan ones are very clearly from bags from the late 70s thru maybe the mid-1980s but the black one looks more like a 1990s design. However, the shape, as you already noticed, just isn't right. Hangtags were stamped out, not cut out free-hand which is what the black one seems to have been. The sides would have been straight and parallel, not rounded.

Uummmmmm.... speaking of something stronger - that almost-full bottle of Bailey's that you had in the fridge? We didn't want it to go bad, so we (cough) disposed of it in a way we thought was environmentally friendly and with a minimum of waste. Al Gore would be proud of us..

Thanks very much, Hyacinth! Definitely appreciate the detailed explanation. I had a feeling as soon as I saw it that it was problematic. While she will be upset it's a counterfeit, I don't think I'll be able to get my MIL to do anything about it with eBay. But I am going to try and see if I can get her money back anyway. Apparently my husband helped her on the payment end by getting it through his PayPal. So, maybe that will work.

Again, thanks tons!

I THINK Ebay allows 90 days to file a Dispute, I'm not sure about Paypal. Whateve might know, or if BeenBurned is still around here looking for that bottle of Bailey's, she might post a link to one of the replies she's made where she explained the best way of getting a refund and whether to file with Paypal or Ebay - I'm guessing PP since the bag is counterfeit and selling it was a violation of not just Ebay rules but of federal law..

I think opening a dispute or return request through ebay is the way to go. Paypal might require you to provide proof in the form of a professional authentication. Since the listing has been removed on ebay, you should have no trouble getting a refund on ebay.

I believe ebay only allows 30 days from receipt for filing a dispute. PayPal allows 180 days but if the seller is honorable and directed to this discussion, she might do the right thing and just issue a full refund. if she's smart, she won't waste her money paying (also) for return shipping because she can't resell a counterfeit item anywhere.

The only reason why the seller might want the fake back is if she can return it to whoever sold it to her.

If the seller is uncooperative , you can open a PayPal dispute.
