It's authentic. I'm surprised it isn't as heavy as 80s and 90s versions of this bag. I don't think they changed the leather much until the mid 2000s. Every bag I've gotten from the Costa Rican plant up through 2002-2003 has had wonderful, thick leather. I don't know when they changed the strap. I know they were like that around 2010 and later. They could have changed as early as 2002 when your bag was made, or the strap is a replacement.

I have an old note that says the Basic Bag was re-issued in 2002 with the wide single strap, maybe catalog- or website-only. It looks like before that, it had been discontinued in 1991.

And here is another one - it did not have a strap, and is pictured with a Station Bag strap (last photo shows both bags - the Station Bag has been authenticated. Both are fine. The hangtag on the Willis is obviously not original.

Thanks for the authentication Whateve. This is the youngest 'classic' bag I have, and the leather and it really surprised me. I guess I got the lucky dd one in the bunch :)
