Just a random thought/question... bags with the target stamp on the creed, are those ever faked? I can't imagine a counterfeiter would bother with a fake target. Can I assume a bag with one of those is probably ok?
We have seen an occasional fake outlet bullet stamp. I'll look to see if I have a picture saved.

Could you please authenticate this listing? I was reading a salearea guide advising to be wary of "stretch marks" on a bag in odd areas. I think this bag is beautiful, but in the photo that shows the creed, are those unusual stretch marks?

Authentic. That isn't what we refer to as the bad stretch marks. Those are natural markings. Coach often chose the nicest pieces for the fronts of the bags, using the less desirable pieces for pockets and backs. The bad leather we refer to as elephant skin is pretty obvious as low quality leather.

And in the same vein, how about the FS stamp?

This might be a fake FS stamp, all the other ones I've seen have been stamped with white ink, not embossed into the leather, and there are several things wrong with the rest of the bag too including a J plant code for a USA plant.

Keep something in mind - a fake can have a genuine outlet stamp that was actually stamped BY THE OUTLET. Fakes can be "returned" to an outlet or even a FP store without a receipt, or could in the past, and if the SA or manager didn't spot it as fake it would be stamped and put into stock at the outlet. Just because a bag has an outlet stamp doesn't mean the purse is genuine. And up until recently, fakes makers didn't even know what an outlet stamp was or what it meant.

Don't depend on stamps, and DON'T try to self-authenticate.

Thanks, Whateve! So I'll know it if I see it - it won't be questionable.

I've posted a few photos over the years showing what I mean by stretch marks or elephant skin. Here's a really good example that also has a fake cellphone holder AND an always-fake serial number, along with other red flags. Notice that the stretch marks are in a lot of places on the bag where the leather should never be stretched or stressed. I believe they're a sign of overprocessing and overstretching the leather to soften it. Answers to Authenticity Questions, June 11, 2009, post 350:

Thank you for the link to the thread and the photos! Now I get it!

I can't say I've ever seen a fake FS stamp but that one seems like it would be easy enough to copy so I wouldn't discount the counterfeiters copying it.

Thank you both. Very good point about returned bags, I never even thought of that! So glad I asked, I might have just assumed if a bag had a stamp like that it would be ok. Guess not! Thank you ladies for your input, I really do appreciate the helpfulness here :)
