Good Morning Monday Everyone!
I'm wondering if anyone knows the time period during when COACH manufactured Suspender Bags.. basically how long they were produced? I knew this fun bit o' trivia once...maybe? Thanks! CHEERS! S..
I believe that the first bags with suspender straps started appearing during the period from the very late 1960s-1970. These were unlined and were identified using COACH metal tags. Then there were styles that used a leather suspender strap (in lieu of the striped-fabrlic straps on the earlier bags). Those bags were identified using a COACH cartouche imprint, so that would place them in the early 1970s. Here're photos of some of the suspender styles. I'm sure that there're more:

  • Can someone please authenticate this bag I bought today. It has an old style creed stamp that appears correct but I have been unable to find a similar bag anywhere online. No. D6K 4153
Thank you,
W

Thank you for your response. One of the only coach cat pics of a Suspender I have is from the mini coach catalogue from 1976. I had a pre-serial number Creed story patch bag I'm dating around that time...(it now belongs to my little friend in Minnesota) My newest is also pre serial number with Coach creed serial number. Unfortunately they don't have the KOOLKAT fabric straps =although time is not kind to those straps so..nnever mind. I'm thinking they were made up to 1978-ish...Do we know ior certain if Suspenders Were designed by Bonnie Cashin ? COACH TRIVIA on a Monday...:coolio: GeezLouise :graucho:

Please identify also. Thank you! Sorry for inquiring about so many. Just trying to be careful.

Genuine Metropolis Zip #9087.

Sorry, that's not a Metropolis Zip. The Met Zip was introduced in Fall 1997 and would always have had a serial number that included the style number, and also would have had a snap-in key fob to the left of the creed.

Give me a few minutes to ID this one.

ETA - OK, Lewiston Bag, style 9931 from around 1993

ooops almost forgot. I received the Scout Spectator BEAN BAG-it's fine it's authentic.. Unfortunately it's black & tan-not navy. I have been looking for Scout bags in the other Spectator color combos they offered..so far I've only had Black & tan, but Coach DID make them in Bone, Forest Green, & Navy all trimmed in Brit Tan . I'm on the hunt for a Green & Tan Spectator Scout..That would be FABULOUS!:happydance:

Thank you.

Again, thanks.

Out of curiosity may I ask what is it? An hybrid early version of a Taft spawned by a Large Courier Pouch sometime after the late 1970s (I can't really read the creed or decipher the ident number below it)?

I'll provide that the underside of the "tongue" looks a bit odd to me. All the "tongues" I have,, the upper edge of the smooth leather backing doubler on the inside surface is cut square and terminates at the top of the parallel portion of the "tongue" (not contoured like what's shown in the photo). And what's with the corroded looking buckle? I've plenty of pre-creed bags with buckle attached adjustable straps, all of which have the lighter gauge buckles (and straps with ungrommeted holes). My 1970s bags have the more significant "solid brass" buckles. Patina and tarnish, yes. Scratches yes. But none of the buckles I've seen have looked like the one shown in this listings photos
