Yay! Thank you! I saw another tote like that in black at a Thrift store but didn't buy it for $40. Should I have bought it? Is it rare?

You don't see many of them, but maybe they didn't sell many of them either. There's "rare" as in "hard to find but in high demand" and there's "rare" as in "not a strong seller when it was available". Take the advice of someone who's bought both kinds - buy something because you love it. Whether or not it's rare doesn't mean much if it's just going to end up at the back of your closet. Sometimes if you need to ask whether or not you should buy something, that could mean that you just aren't feeling the love for it, KWIM?

AHA! A SCOUT Spectator Marked BEAN BAG--What say you??
Is it possible?

Sure it's possible. Almost any bag that was in production in late 1990 when the Bean Bag creed was mistakenly being stamped could have gotten one if they were made at the same plant. There seem to be a lot of Spectator styles with Bean Bag creeds. I have a Bean Bag Madison Satchel.

Remember... It wasn't that long ago that people were disposing of their "BEAN BAG" Coach Bags which were deemed to be fakes..

True, and when Jed Winokur finally verified that it could have simply been a mistake at the plant (although that's never actually been verified), we tried to correct that error whenever possible. What complicates things is that there are also FAKE bags with Bean Bag creeds so care still needs to be taken when buying them, and the fakes REALLY muddied the waters when it came time to analyze a Bean Bag creed because looking back there were probably at least 2 fakes for every 3 genuine or probably genuine Bean Bags, and a few of the fakes were very accurate. When there's that high a percentage of fakes, it';s easy to err on the side of caution and treat all of them as counterfeit.

Just so you know, those of us who used to post at the old Ebay Shoes & Purses Board tried to find an answer to the Bean Bag question probably as far back as 2007. We didn't just flip a coin to make the decision. Most of the experienced posters did a lot of digging trying to find an answer, including even calling LL Bean to ask if they had ever done a series of bags with Coach. Amazingly, someone there was actually able to go through their records and ask older employees, but no one could find a connection. High marks to them for actually trying though - Bean's customer service has always impressed me.

Right! I remember.when Bean Bags were "legitimized".or was it decriminalized?
Personally, I've never seen a BeanBag creed on a bag that I was interested in before so it's kinda novel. I'm a Spectator collector, so having the bean bag creed is a plus+++. like finding a paperclip zip pull or a pre-serial bag when you least expect it....yippee!
And Yes, I understand the amount of time effort & investigating that it takes the TPF authenticators And how much that you all give to us.. Please know you all are very APPRECIATED by moi . ALL THE BEST! S.

HET whateve -whatup? I thought you would appreciate that RANT !! Yow, how weird!!
I just bought my 4th Scout, though I doubt it is Blue-but whatevah? I think its a great style & I LOVE not having to pull off turnlocks...I chose my bags based on that lately, the less hardware the better!! Hope you& yours are doing FINE! CHEERS! S
Hey Sheri!
I've never had a scout bag. I saw one recently that tempted me but the seller said the closure was loose so I was afraid. I've only had one of those springlock bags and I had a hard time working it.

I was one of those who bought a bean creed bag that I thought was fake. The seller was so apologetic that she told me to keep it and sent me another bag for free. The only thing besides the creed that was iffy is that the ring for the zipper pull was thicker than normal and that pewter color like all the finish had been worn off. The leather was nice though.

I used to collect spectator bags too. I love how they look, until I try to figure out an outfit that works with both colors.

Awww....do you still have your beanbag bag? I remember people trashing their bags because beanbag spelled
BIG FAKE! I'm glad that it was finally clarified that some factories were using the wrong stamp on the REAL Thing!
I Love Spectators& two tone- three tone D&Bs too! IMHO, Spectators are really versatile & they go with everything..but then again all I wear are jeans & tank tops so what do I know?
I did see the SCOUT with the broken springlock, I bet the springlock did work, they seem like they should screw open but all you do is pull up on them & they kind of snap back (SPRING)when you close them.
Anyway, It was really good to finally make it back to TPF. I have had such a hard time finding anything on this new Improved TPF site -I've been really frustrated! So,Today after searching for current posts I finally bookmarked the page. I was stuck back in the olden days of 2010...Shake it Easy ! NightNight! S.
