Thanks ladies for confirming my suspicion. I'm not experienced enough to notice the differences as I don't know a lot about creed history. Should I report the item? Does anyone report them after posting fakes in the hall of shame? Sorry for the newbie questions.
I believe you should report. Posting items in the Hall of Shame doesn't get them removed unless people also report them. The reason for posting there is to get others to report them too, to increase the chances they will be removed.

It's authentic. It's not a Bonnie Cashin though, being made many years after she left.. What makes you think it isn't authentic?

The white stripe in the bottom really bothers me. It seems they shouldn't be that way. And I thought I read there should be no irregular stamps. Probably a bad guide I read somewhere along the line.

Well, nice that it's real. Seems like a good price for someone who's looking.

I own many vintage bags and most have that white stripe. Many times you can't see it unless you stretch apart the bag at the seam. I believe it is because they shaved some of the leather on the suede side before they stitched it.

You apparently haven't read the six Salearea Coach Guides, which is what you SHOULD be reading. Wash that other nonsense out of your brain cells and read these:
http://www.ebay.com/gsr/i.html?uid="salearea"&rmvSB=true&rmvSB=true

The Guide on serial numbers even says
"Up until the end of the 1990s, the serial numbers were mostly hand-stamped using a mechanism that allowed the operator to change numbers quickly, and often in early Coaches you can see the top or bottom of the next number in line above or below the actual serial number. And rarely the dash between the two halves was skipped over and a string of 8 numbers would be stamped. Neither of these production glitches means that the bag is a fake, and neither did numbers that were off-center, angled, or bumping into the border of the creed statement. Contrary to what all too many “guides” say, early Coaches were NOT perfect and uneven numbers are NOT always signs of a fake. But they still need to be checked by an expert since the same things can be found in fakes."

At least 90 percent of internet Coach "guides" are full of mistakes, misinformation, useless nonsense and outright lies. DON'T depend on them!

Yes, Ma'am!

I have read yours. And others of course, before I knew between right and wrong.

The actual "irregular" stamp is what I was referring to not the creed or serial number stamping being cattywampus.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<,
The Quote feature seems to be having a Snit Fit lately...

The "IRREGULAR" stamp was stamped by Coach, probably right at the factory. And on almost all the bags I've seen with the stamp, I've never been able to figure out what was wrong with it. Coach's Quality Control people were a lot fussier back then than they are now, assuming they even bother with QC any more.

And If I seem obsessed with the mistakes in other peoples' "guides" I have reason to be. We've seen so many mistakes in them, especially since almost all of them are just Copy&Paste repeats of previous guides with the same mistakes included and often new ones added. There have been so many innocent sellers who have had genuine bags reported as fakes because someone believed the nonsense in one of those guides and reported it to Ebay, or filed a Dispute claiming the genuine bag they bought was fake, or left Feedback saying the bag was counterfeit. And in almost every single instance we've looked at, the bag has been authentic. Those inaccurate guides have left a trail of misery behind them for a lot of undeserving victims.

And what REALLY burns my butt is that NONE of the "writers" a.k.a. plagarists ever seem to have taken the time to do any kind of actual research to see if any of the statements they were spewing onto the internet were true. Most of the mistakes could have been eliminated with 5 or 10 minutes of actually looking at listings or visiting a Coach store and looking at the genuine bags. There's NO excuse for that kind of sloppy work. And only a handful of guide writers including a few who actually do research to get their facts right ever bother to correct or update their guides. Most of them just disappear and are never heard from again but their mistakes still cause problems ten or fifteen years later, and probably will continue to do so for the next 100 years. On the internet, mistakes seem to stick around forever.

And it's not just authentic items that have been alleged to be fake because of these inaccurate guides.

There are probably just as many buyers who received fakes but are assured they got the real deal because their items have YKK zippers and straight stitching!

It's authentic, probably made between 1989 and 1993. What a rare find! I don't know what caused the discoloration around the edges but it might be permanent.

Thank you so much!! The discoloration is actually why I feared it was fake, but since it's authentic, I'll just ask the seller how it got to be that way and hope the body patinas nicely to match the edges! Thanks again!
