LOL! Unfortunately, there are very few sellers who are OCD enough to know as much information as the shallow purse obsessed authenticators among us! And 99% of the time, that type of knowledge isn't necessary. It's not necessary to learn to recognize fakes vs. authentic items and it's certainly not necessary when the seller buys her inventory from Coach outlets. Heck, even Coach employees don't know how to read serial numbers so they certainly can't tell you whether an item has a Coach "mistake" or not.
Be careful depending on receipts to prove authenticity. When we authenticate, we barely look at props like tags and receipts. Tags and receipts are faked and it's not unheard of for dishonest sellers to use genuine receipts to "prove" authenticity of their fakes. When we authenticate, it's the details of the actual items that we scrutinize.

Hihi BeenBurned,

Haha! It's good and useful knowledge to have though! Would save me a lot of grieve and money .
Guess it all boils down to how trustworthy the seller is. Else there's really no telling when buying stuff online. It would really help if sellers are more responsible and knowledgeable about what they are selling. They should take a lesson or two from the likes of you here!

Once again, thanks for your precious inputs! Have a great day!

Good morning! Would you please authenticate these two? Like a moth to a (burgundy) flame… Thank you!

Both look good.

OT: is there a trick to getting multi-quoted posts to show up in the correct order, i.e., the earliest one first?

AUTHENTICATE This COACH

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread.

Note: The PurseForum requests that only members with an extensive knowledge of the brand and authenticating who have over 500 posts participate as authenticators in this AT thread. The moderators reserve the right to remove authentications that do not meet these requirements.

Please follow the following rules:

  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:

    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller:
    Link:
    Comments:

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
    • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.
  • Authenticators are not required to answer every request and it is their right to ignore a request that is not in the proper format.
  • Please note that comments on price and condition are NOT permitted.
  • Do NOT PM an authenticator or moderator to request authentication. Any and all such requests should be posted in this thread.
  • Should one of your items be questioned in this thread, you are welcome to provide additional pictures or materials supporting its authenticity.
  • Do not handle your disputes with other members in this thread but take your differences to Private Messages. Failure to do so can result in banning.

Hi - I'm trying to figure out how to post here.

Please tell me if this Coach purse is authentic. It appears to be the City Bag, but it does not have the suffix 9790, (instead 359).

Thank you kindly!

Welcome to the purse forum. It's an authentic city bag. It doesn't have the style number #9790 in the creed because it was made in the early 90s when Coach used unique serial numbers.

Here is some information: http://www.ebay.com/gds/Coach-Serial-Numbers-the-Basic-Facts-/10000000034886433/g.html

Once again, testing my memory. Would appreciate it if you all would please confirm my suspicions...

Item: COACH VINTAGE 80s Large Leather Feed Bucket Crossbody Duffle Bag Black 9085 USA
Listing number: 322216851464
Seller: gormansp (449 )
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-VINTA...851464?hash=item4b059ef808:g:FVkAAOSwimdXo99f
Comments: D5S with HANDCRAFTED IN THE UNITED STATES? I thought that the S plant was one of the original Chinese facilities and not a letter that was ever used for a US facility. Nevermind the seller claiming a bag "dated" 1995 as an 80s item, even if it was authentic.

You're right. S was never used for the US. In 1995, it was already being used for China for business items. The listing is fake.
