The "Optic Carly" is another obvious fake. The fabric looks super-thin and really cheap, and the C lining should be a dead giveaway even if everything else on it was ok. That one could have been reported without even checking here just based on the C lining, but a fake sold in May is past the date limit for reporting..

A Carly is too recent of a style to have 4 digit style number. Manufacturers of fakes often use real numbers on the wrong bags. There are certain numbers that Coach never used and that are only on fakes. Usually these are obvious.

I had no doubt about the "Carly", that's why I didn't even ask questions about its authenticity. I started digging for that creed number as soon as I bumped into that completed auction a couple of days ago. Speaking of date limits, how long after the end of the auction we could notify eBay about the fakes? I was assuming as long as the auction is showing in search, it could be reported.

I've heard conflicting numbers but 60 days seems to be the most common. It wouldn't surprise me if Ebay ignores reports on sold items after some sort of secret time period since they can't do much about something that was sold more than a month ago.

Right now the fake "Carly" isn't even showing on Ebay any more, so maybe someone did report it and get it removed. Whether the buyer would ever be able to get their money back is another question. It's a shame you didn't spot it sooner, we could have saved someone a few bucks. The thing to remember is unless it's 100 percent certain that a specific item is fake, such as any bag with an NT-4903 serial number, ask about it here before deciding whether or not to report it, especially when there is more than one style with the same style or serial number. And do a Search of the Coach forums here for the style number. If you'd found the previous posts BeenBurned made about that specific number you could have had your questions answered. Even if you had just Googled "Coach 8f34" one of the first links that came up would have led you right to her original post.

And speaking of C05M-8F34 fakes, there's another one listed on Poshmark if any of you are registered there and know how to, or even IF you can, report fake items:

https://poshmark.com/listing/Authentic-Coach-Bag-No-C05M8F34-53d471c7b539e4563f14bd7d

Fake C lining (should be solid Taupe color), fake creed patch should be off-white, and like the fake Carly Whateve brought up, the style number on that and all other Hamptons Weekend Patchwork items should have FIVE numbers, not 4, and a 2006 year code, not 2005. Please report if you can.

ANOTHER FAKE WITH THAT SERIAL NUMBER CURRENTLY LISTED:

TERAPEAK:

When I report listings, I also go through completed listings (and if bored, go through feedback on occasion) and report any fakes that are clickable. As long as they open, they can be reported and if ebay does the right thing, they'll act on the report. .

*Someone* did report those items! :)

The buyers do get an email advising them of the takedown but because those notices aren't too specific as to why the listing was removed, they often don't know that it's because the item was fake. The takedown notice says something about the listing being removed because it violated ebay policy so unless the buyer asks the seller and the seller is honest, the buyer won't know to seek a refund.

This one is on life support - would you please authenticate (and ID if it's authentic)? Thank you!

Item: ?
Seller: Salvation Army (in my possession)
Dimensions: 10" x 12" x 2"/3" (top/bottom)

It looks fine. It's a Paris bag large 4105 from the Lightweights collection around 1989. I would have been surprised by the snap except that a couple days ago I saw a bag on ebay with the same problem. It might have been two female parts. Maybe you should buy that one and do an operation?

Thank you! I was sure those snaps were the kiss of death. This one will be *plenty* of work without any added elective surgery

Both are fine. I posted the first one in the Vintage Chat thread. It's a basic bag in twill #8455 from around 1986.

AUTHENTICATE This COACH

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread.

Note: The PurseForum requests that only members with an extensive knowledge of the brand and authenticating who have over 500 posts participate as authenticators in this AT thread. The moderators reserve the right to remove authentications that do not meet these requirements.

Please follow the following rules:

  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:

    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller:
    Link:
    Comments:

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
    • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.
  • Authenticators are not required to answer every request and it is their right to ignore a request that is not in the proper format.
  • Please note that comments on price and condition are NOT permitted.
  • Do NOT PM an authenticator or moderator to request authentication. Any and all such requests should be posted in this thread.
  • Should one of your items be questioned in this thread, you are welcome to provide additional pictures or materials supporting its authenticity.
