Boxermom was kind enough to weigh in on this one. Has anyone else seen anything like it? thanks!!

Brennamom, I have never seen this type of BV bag (there is a lot I have not seen!), but the metal tag may be from the recent past... Ask the seller to post or send pics of the authenticity tag (both front and back). With a font like this, I would expect a brown arrow tag. It would also be nice to see the zipper pull, and snaps, if possible. That zipper pull is important! BV tried some new/interesting things during this period, but I cannot say if this is authentic or not without seeing those pics. (Note: Unlined to show the stitching... a forerunner of the Cabat techniques???)

Thanks for looking. She said she forgot about the tag and added the info to the listing, but no pic. It's 10561505258NUA & 9L00050043D912 939519. I'll ask for the pull....You can kind of see a pull in pic #5 but I'll ask. Grazie!

:confused1:Can anyone identify this older Bottega bag? Sorry my attempts at photos of the tags were unsuccessful but looking at the guide on Ebay, they look authentic to me. I couldn't resist picking it up at a consignment store. Needs a bit of TLC. It is black with sort of taupe or cream variations. May have been more cream when it was new. It is lined in nice soft leather and it has two cell phone type pockets on the inside in addition to the zipper pocket, which makes me think it's not really, really old. Does anyone recognize the bag? I thought about dying it black but then read on the forum that after dying you lose much of the softness. Opinions? thanks

I am not familiar with the bag. I cannot tell anything from your picture of the metal tag. Is the font block-like? - or a serif font with "flags" of the T and E? The font gives me an idea of the age if all other signs of authenticity are there. When you do take a picture, set the camera to manual and use macro (picture of a flower) with no flash. Be sure to focus first. If you cannot get a good picture of the authenticity tag (cloth-like with numbers on one side) then describe it, but a pic is worth 1000 words. If your tags are like the guide then you are on the right track.

Sorry that I couldn't be of more help. boxermom, any ideas?

Prego! The old numbers by themselves mean nothing to me. You must have pictures of the tag (front and back) and the zipper pull in order to make a decision. With a metal tag that only says "Bottega Veneta" in a block font, with no "Made in Italy" we need to see all other identifiers. On the other hand, Brennamom, if you love the bag, and do not care about the authenticity, and the price is low ... trust your gut.

I'll try to get help from DH with camera later but cloth tag inside pocket is brown with an arrow on it and Bottega Venega in larger letters with Made in Italy in smaller letters and Cerificate of Originilita on other side. Font on zipper pull inside bag is block letters Bottega Veneta Made In Italy with an arrow on the back side of it. Font on metal tak on outside of zipper pocket is Bottega Veneta in block letters. Thanks for any help.

It sounds right. From the looks of the pics that you have, I believe you have a very nice vintage bag - 2000-2002, maybe a little earlier. Enjoy!

Mi amica, that's the rub. The pattern is arresting, but if it isn't authentic, I can't do it....Years ago, yup, now, no-faux. Mi dispiace .

I don't follow the jewelry much. It's hard to see the stamped font, but it looks different than it should. Also, I've always seen BV weaving with even squares and the squares of leather and material aren't even on this. I lean towards fake, but am not certain.

Others, please comment?

p.s. Welcome to the Purse Forum and the BV subforum. You live in a city I've always wanted to visit!

Thanks boxermom (for the welcome as well!):smile1:. I was about to purchase it, glad I waited.

As with many of the fakes being listed, they are not removed even after I file reports (as I did on this one), gro3602. I cannot guarantee that only one seller is distributing these bags - I have seen several sold - but as boxermom has suggested, someone put a lot of these - in dark brown - in the pipeline. This particular bag was listed earlier, and the auction was cancelled by the seller due to an error in the listing, and then relisted - and sold for $550.

There are also several of a drawstring fake - in several colors that is being listed:

I have filed reports on these too, but to no avail! Ebay, needs to check these complaints!!!! We need your "power"!!!

The auction had ended, but reported anyway. It's removed now.
Please PM me w/ listings such as these, (in case I miss) as ebay would rather pull these counterfeits while the auction is still running.

Hopefully this section will have a "place for the fakes" thread soon, and if several of us are reporting perhaps they will be pulled faster.

Baggiana, I checked my bag, and this looks authentic to me. Seller really should have posted more photos, but it matches mine.

I forgot the retail price, but yes it was from the Resort Collection, as I purchased mine directly from Bottega Veneta.

Thanks very much for your help! I would still like to try to get pics of tags to show you. Can you see enough from my pics to have an opinion on the color? I first thought maybe the black was worn off but the handles are still in good condition and if you're correct about age, it's not that old. Would you just clean it up and use as is, rather than considering dying it black? (My DH is great at restoration; I'm sure he can make the couple of scratches on the black part on the bottom disappear...not sure about the lighter color...maybe it used to be more cream...have you seen this coloration before?)
