Thanks so much gals for your help! You saved me big time from buying the Limo bag! It never occured to me to check other countries ebay sites! The pics I posted actually came off an ad that was posted on sell.com that seller probably doesnt even have a bag if they are using other peoples pictures! I am sooooo glad I found this site!

I have another color question, and I have posted it in the color thread, but thought I'd add it here. Does anyone know what color has the code 2660? The seller describes the color as chocolate, but it looks like walnut to me. Any ideas? Thanks!

2660 is Noce. It's described as chestnut, walnut, etc. It's one of the classic colors that is made every season. Usually when BV people say chocolate, they mean Ebano.

I think in the Color section, people post pics, but you may not get a reply in there.

Thanks, boxermom! That brings up another question - or two: The listings on ebay for noce give a color code of 2510:

Did BV change the code? If so which one is the newer designation?

Also, another seller listed a bag as Noce, but the color code on that tag reads 9800.

Any ideas???

By way of explanation, I am trying to learn the codes (style and color) so that I will be a more knowledgeable buyer - and not so easy to fool! :confused1:

The color section -- I was referring to the sticky on colors - the one that Bunkie initiated - with swatches and text. The other thread on colors featuring pictures is very useful, too, but says pics only, so I figured that was not the one to go to...

I really appreciate all the help and info that you (plural) give!!!

An amazing story!!! Within the last few days I was obsessing about a fake Sloane, and a seller who stated that she was a tPFer. I finally decided that if this were true, and I were that seller, I would want to know if there was a problem with the authenticity of a bag I listed, so I contacted her. I explained why I felt the bag was fake, and linked her to an ebay site on BV authenticity and pointed her this forum. She not only ended the auction and cancelled all bids, but wrote to thank me!!! I really don't want to be the BV police, but I really felt badly about another person being fooled, and hoped that her good reputation meant that she was/is honest. It made my day!!!

Baggiana, look at the below link too-another seller from Germany-very same photo. We actually saw this same photo posted by a UK seller before-had a discussion about this in this thread. I feel so sorry for the buyers of these bags:confused1:

Lawbabe, I feel badly for the buyers, too, and I do know how they feel! From the use of the same pictures for all these auctions, and the numbers on the tags, I can only surmise that someone did buy (at least temperarily) the real McCoy, photographed it, a and used it make copies. This happens so often in my line - a "producer" sees a handmade item, buys it and ships it overseas to China to be mass produced - no design fees, or even an attempt to attribute the design to the original source - and it winds up in stores you know and even buy from, as handmade when the techniques used are those of mass production - or even child/forced labor. It is difficult for the American craftsperson to explain the cost of their items when the mass produced items are so cheap and plentiful, and this dulls the public's appreciation for what the real thing looks and feels like... and in this case, you cannot even call it counterfeit... just on a rant... Theft is theft is theft! I guess that I am preaching to the choir. I will go think pleasant thoughts!!! - and keep my eyes open!!! So thankful for this forum!!!!!

On the noce colour code issue, I recall there was a thread a while back that identified both 2510 and 2660 as valid and verified codes for noce (but not 9800...). We were all confused and couldn't find an explanation so basically just moved on. So you are right and I haven't a clue why!!

Given that there are lots of fake Sloanes, I'm a bit afraid to buy from Ebay. How about this one?

It looks good to me in the pictures provided. What do you all ladies think?

TIA

dolphingirl - I cannot speak specifically to the authenticity, but a couple of things bother me about this auction....
Sloane is not spelled correctly
Seller described it as cervo (deerskin), and I don't believe this is deerskin
Why start a $2250 bag at such a low price...this makes me quite wary

What do others think about this?

Sloanes are made from Nappa Umbria leather, so I have no idea why seller calls it Cervo. I know they can fake just about anything, including receipts, but the fact that they have the original receipt is a plus. I see no red flags with this bag. she calls it gray, the BV color name is Ferro.

jburgh, boxermon, thank you for the help. I was suspecting that maybe the seller is not so familiar with BV leather and color. Sloane should be nappa umbria, not cervo. Anyway, I will be careful with this one and see how it goes.

The photos look good to me in terms of authenticity; in terms of color I'm not sure why but it looks like Ebano on my screen; Boxermom is right in that it is not cervo but umbria.
