Boxermom & Baggiana -- thank you for your reply; does this mean the bag could be fake?

No, it doesn't mean that - at least in my opinion. We just wanted to find out if the color code was consistant with the color. If not, that would be a red flag. Since the colde is 9000, it "must" be in the white family, and may not be a recent/current Veneta, since we do not have the code on hand. To me, everything else looks ok, but I would go to the BV forum, and post a new thread - something like- calling all owners of white or off white BV's and ask them to tell you what the last four numbers on their authenticity tags are. The number, name and year of production may come up and we might get a better idea that way.

As you all have guessed, authenticating BV's is a little (sometimes, a lot) more subtle than other high end handbags... so this may be a "Stump the chump" moment.

Ask the seller, if she could post or send a picture of the complete tag, including the lower numbers. That may give me a better idea... maybe...

boxermom, what do you think???

...

melody*avenue, I just posted a new thread asking for white color codes... let's see what we get.

Baggiana, as usual, I agree with everything you said. 9000's are the white/cream family of colors, we're just trying to figure out if 9200 is a real color. It probably is, but we can't say for certain the bag is authentic till we know more.

boxermom, if you go to the link for http://forum.purseblog.com/bottega-veneta/calling-all-owners-of-white-off-white-bvs-319577.html you will see that saresha has found an online listing for a small white bv (can't authenticate this one- can you?) with this color-code. Can you please take a look and tell me what you think? Many thanks!!!:smile1:

I have a link to that site(wish I could read Japanese). This little bag looks authentic and the color looks white--not off-white, but WHITE! Problem is many sites don't use BV's color name. could this be similar to the 2 different codes for Ebano? That's the only thing I can think of right now.

melody*avenue, I wanted to get back to you before the auction ended. With boxermom's assessment that the small bag on the Japanese site is authentic, and considering that the color code for this little bag and the bag in which you are interested are the same, and, also considering that our only reservation was this color code, I would say that this looks good. In the end, you must use your own best judgement. Whatever you decide, best of luck! Just a note: this is the medium size.

boxermom, at least we know now that there is a white with a color code of 9200. I saw two color codes for noce, too. Ebano, as well??? And, there seems to be differences in color codes for the same colors between Campanas and Venetas. VERY INTERESTING!.... I need a guide!!!!

Ohhh, thanks so much, you two! Though I consider myself somewhat of a handbag aficionado (I own Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Jimmy Choo, Ferragamo, Chloe, and others...) This will be my very first foray into the BV world! Your help has been tremendous! :o)

HELP! I found this listing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ITALIAN-BOTTEGA...ryZ63852QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I have never seen anything like it. I do have a vintage backpack with a name/logo imprint on the outside pocket, but my backpack has the unmistakable logo-ed fabric of that period and this bag has a canvas-looking lining with an unfamiliar zipper pull. The seller has been very careful to put everything in quotes, so I cannot fault him/her for deceptive listing. Says it's is new, but even if it was vintage could be in unused condition, and most people cannot tell. The design looks like nothing I have ever seen for BV. I think that this is not real... What do you think???

Many thanks!

I hope that your first BV, whichever one it is, brings you as much enjoyment as your others! You gotta love the leather and workmanship!!!

I would bet a lot of money that's a fake. Look at the stitching:yucky:. The sewn label is a shape used by fakers and the font is also used by fakers. If I spent more time looking at it I could find several other things wrong, but it's not real BV, IMO.

There is a "Bottega Veneta Made in Italy" imprinted on leather above interior snap pocket .. other than that .. no metal plaque, no fabric tag.
Zipper slides say "Riri M6" underneath (or M8, not sure). Bought last year on eBay, before I knew about tPF! .. from big Florida seller. Lining is heavy suede, leather is soft and glorious brown color. It has heavy use .. but the question is .. is it real Bottega Veneta?
Thanks for your help.
